Summary

A contemporary air-sea heavyweight fight...the like we haven't seen since the Pacific War.

A routine US Navy freedom-of-navigation patrol in the South China sea turns deadly when it encounters a covert - and unauthorized - Chinese plot to lay claim to waters of the South China Sea. Misunderstanding, miscalculation, and fear lead to both sides mobilizing, with the United States moving west across the Pacific to meet and engage the People's Liberation Army (Navy) who waits with modern weaponry and determined purpose.

Through detailed research and his insight of modern naval and aerial warfare gained through personal experience, Kevin Miller takes the listener aboard a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier heading across the Pacific for the South China Sea - and combat. Today, the South China Sea is one of the most important - and dangerous - bodies of water in the world, with seven countries laying claim to portions of it, and in one case, all of it. Loaded with action, from heavy seas to inbound missiles, Fight Fight explores a scenario that could lead to an unwanted and unplanned - and with today's headlines perhaps inevitable - war between an established and a rising superpower.

Known for his character development, Miller brings Flip, Weed, and Olive along on another sea adventure. Along the way they will encounter a leadership challenge as old as the sea, and the motivations of several Chinese antagonists, from four-star leadership to front line fighter pilots, are explored.

Today's cutting-edge precision weapons - some real and some imagined - are employed to devastating effect. Could the Chinese - though relentless action or divine luck - do the unthinkable?

Fight Fight is modern techno-thriller on the order of Clancy's Red Storm Rising, a human story of geopolitics and personal failings, involving the perils and uncertainty of modern naval combat and one particular deadly sin that humans fighting such battles must deal with. And fear, of failure first, then, after witnessing it on a scale no one had imagined, of death.

If war does come, who will fight it?

“Another great page-turner by Kevin Miller. Clearly, he is an author who has been there, and anyone interested in aviation will love his detailed descriptions of carrier operations. In a manner similar to Tom Clancy, he is willing to look at frightening outcomes and new weapon technology." (Radm Paul Tobin)

If you want to know what it is really like to fly and fight

As a former FA-18 A-F pilot, I can honestly say that the Raven One series of books is as close as you can get to being there. I appreciate the homage to real aviators who post their lives in the service of our country. Once I started listening, I couldn’t stop.

Absolutely incredible!

As a retired Navy Captain and Hornet driver I was totally captured by this audio book. Binged it! The detailed descriptions of various emotions and sensations can only be so accurately related by one who has experienced them first hand. The language/banter and weapon engagement scenarios ring true in every passage. From the strategic , through theater, to tactical level, this story nails it. It’s truly an amazingly accurate piece of story telling.

playing out

The way our relationship with China is playing out. The plot of this story line could happen now.

Great Story

This was the best of the three books (all three were good). This is a story by a fighter pilot for fighter pilots.

Francis, It's TURBINE not TURBAN! But I forgive u.

Despite weird pronunciation of some words the Narrator did a superb job and so did the writer. I hope we get a book 4.

China vs USA

A well written fiction of a plausible conflict between the US and China in the SES. Relevant in todays world. Recommend.

Perfection

Miller nails it. As a naval aviation aficionado and dreaming of flying hornets my whole life, this book is amazing as it relates to the mechanics and the plot. Especially capturing the essence of a possible war with China and how it would play out with modern technology. This is one you can listen to over and over and enjoy

Great addition to the series. Great book period!

Another great Flip Wilson/Raven One book. I highly recommend anyone who loves military planes. The first book was recommended to me by someone on r/hoggit which is a place where people talk about fighter jets simulators like DCS world where you can pretend to be Flip in an F/A-18C Hornet. I am very glad they did because the first book hooked me in immediately and I loved it and the second book and this 3rd book didn't disappoint. if you enjoy good stories and couldn't care less about Hornets and AMRAAMs you'll still love the great story. The timing of the audiobook release coincides with heating rhetoric between the US and China so if you just want to know what could hypothetically come from that read this book! if you just like planes read this book!

Has some tech in it that may sound futuristic but if you follow DARPA at all it is entirely plausible if not likely. You may ask yourself why more F-35s aren't used, and seeing as the book is set in 2018 and we aren't scheduled to have any F-35C squadrons on carriers for 3-4 more years at least. Anyway the story is good and entirely plausible if not likely to happen especially with the re-escalating trade war going on. Great entry in the series and true to form. awesome carrier ops from an author you can tell has been there and done that. If you like Clancy or Larry Bond you will like this series except this one is more realistic and has a unique. Even if you are just a fan of carriers and carrier aircraft you'll love it. highly recommend starting from book one called Raven One and reading them in order. you'll find them on Audible in the Flip Wilson series.

Excellent Book if you can get past the politics.

This is the best fictional depiction of a China/US shooting war I've read yet. Its technical depictions of Sea combat are riveting and informative. The author's experience as a Naval Aviator shows as he's able to get inside the headspace of Naval planners on both sides. The misunderstandings and miscalculations that lead to conflict are also very plausible and frankly scary.

Having said all that, the author's right-wing politics are on full display just as in his previous books. He seems to have disdain for the American political system, media, and of course, liberals. While the aspects of military conflict are very accurate, his depiction of America is far off in left (right?) field. (Spoiler Alert) China attacks a defenseless American Warship with chemical weapons, collides with a US patrol aircraft, conducts a crippling first strike on a US Aircraft Carrier, and conducts unrestricted warfare on civilian shipping, yet the half the American public (the liberal half) and the media sides with China, and is sidetracked with identity politics while the country is a war. This ridiculousness is bound to score points with conservative blowhard readers, but more serious readers might find this laughable.

If you can ignore the politics, you love this book. It's as close as it gets to the classics like Red Storm Rising, Sword Point, and Team Yankee.
