Story
In the desolate middle of the largest ocean on earth, two great navies approached, one bent on conclusive battle, the other lying in ambush. Six months after Pearl Harbor, Yamamoto again crossed the Pacific with the largest and most powerful naval armada the world had ever seen, this time to finish the job. Nimitz waited for him with what he had, placed exactly where he needed it. Both admirals depended on their fliers, some veterans of battle, others raw and unproven. Striking first meant decisive victory.

The Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 is the most advanced multi-role combat aircraft in the world. Capable of flying at nearly twice the speed of sound and powering to a height of more than 10 miles in less time than it takes to boil a kettle, a single Typhoon can also deliver a heavy bombload with such lethal precision that a whole squadron of Lancasters could not have guaranteed the same result.

Story
When the Falkland Islands were invaded by Argentina in April 1982, Britain’s immediate response was to send a task force. But behind the pomp and bravado of its departure, a sober reality lurked. A mere 20 Sea Harriers operating from two aircraft carriers would take on the might of the Argentine air force, some 200 planes strong. The MOD estimated that within four days and against such formidable air power, half the harriers would likely be lost. To reinforce that meagre force, and in just three weeks, the Navy formed, trained and equipped a brand new squadron from scratch.

Dan Hampton was a leading member of the Wild Weasels, the elite Air Force fighter squadrons whose mission is recognized as the most dangerous job in modern air combat. Weasels are the first planes sent into a war zone, flying deep behind enemy lines purposely seeking to draw fire from surface-to-air missiles and artillery. The mighty, iconic A-10 Warthog was first thrust into battle in Operation Desert Storm. The men who took it through walls of flak and surface-to-air missiles to help defeat the world's fourth-largest army were as untested as their airplanes, so they relied on personal determination and the amazing A-10 to accomplish their missions, despite the odds.

This is the story of my fellow aircrew at the heart of Operation Desert Storm, almost none of whom had any prior experience of armed combat. It is the story of the Tornado’s missions, of those who did not return - and of the families who watched and waited as one of the most complex conflicts in recent history unfolded live on television. It is a story of untold fear and suffering, and astounding courage in the face of what, for us, was hitherto unimaginable adversity.

Story
When Moslem fundamentalists blow up a key Soviet oil complex, making an already critical oil shortage calamitous, the Russians figure they are going to have to take things into their own hands. They plan to seize the Persian Gulf, and more ambitiously, to neutralise NATO. Thus begins Red Storm, an audacious gamble that uses diplomatic maneuvers to cloak a crash military build-up. When Soviet tanks begin to roll, the West is caught off guard. What looks like a thrust turns into an all-out shooting war, possibly the climactic battle for control of the globe.

brilliant audiobook

Summary
A contemporary air-sea heavyweight fight...the like we haven't seen since the Pacific War.
A routine US Navy freedom-of-navigation patrol in the South China sea turns deadly when it encounters a covert - and unauthorized - Chinese plot to lay claim to waters of the South China Sea. Misunderstanding, miscalculation, and fear lead to both sides mobilizing, with the United States moving west across the Pacific to meet and engage the People's Liberation Army (Navy) who waits with modern weaponry and determined purpose.
Through detailed research and his insight of modern naval and aerial warfare gained through personal experience, Kevin Miller takes the listener aboard a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier heading across the Pacific for the South China Sea - and combat. Today, the South China Sea is one of the most important - and dangerous - bodies of water in the world, with seven countries laying claim to portions of it, and in one case, all of it. Loaded with action, from heavy seas to inbound missiles, Fight Fight explores a scenario that could lead to an unwanted and unplanned - and with today's headlines perhaps inevitable - war between an established and a rising superpower.
Known for his character development, Miller brings Flip, Weed, and Olive along on another sea adventure. Along the way they will encounter a leadership challenge as old as the sea, and the motivations of several Chinese antagonists, from four-star leadership to front line fighter pilots, are explored.
Today's cutting-edge precision weapons - some real and some imagined - are employed to devastating effect. Could the Chinese - though relentless action or divine luck - do the unthinkable?
Fight Fight is modern techno-thriller on the order of Clancy's Red Storm Rising, a human story of geopolitics and personal failings, involving the perils and uncertainty of modern naval combat and one particular deadly sin that humans fighting such battles must deal with. And fear, of failure first, then, after witnessing it on a scale no one had imagined, of death.
If war does come, who will fight it?
“Another great page-turner by Kevin Miller. Clearly, he is an author who has been there, and anyone interested in aviation will love his detailed descriptions of carrier operations. In a manner similar to Tom Clancy, he is willing to look at frightening outcomes and new weapon technology." (Radm Paul Tobin)

As a former FA-18 A-F pilot, I can honestly say that the Raven One series of books is as close as you can get to being there. I appreciate the homage to real aviators who post their lives in the service of our country. Once I started listening, I couldn’t stop.

Absolutely incredible!
As a retired Navy Captain and Hornet driver I was totally captured by this audio book. Binged it! The detailed descriptions of various emotions and sensations can only be so accurately related by one who has experienced them first hand. The language/banter and weapon engagement scenarios ring true in every passage. From the strategic , through theater, to tactical level, this story nails it. It’s truly an amazingly accurate piece of story telling.

Is America really this incompetent?
The audio book is about 18 hours long. I managed to listen to 16 of them, then I finally had enough. I'm sure this review will not meet audible guidelines so I am not going to spend a lot of time on this since it's publication is doubtful. The book basically bashes the USA and in almost every squirmish loses to China. The book also features J10 and J11 aircraft, killer satellites, laser weapons, D21 cruise missiles, and not one mention of the F22, F35, and all the rest of the USA arsenal that would certainly be brought to bear in a real war with China. In trying to create interesting and credible military characters and their families the author goes way over in the emotional heart tugs that become hard to listen to. Case in point: Mother, a LTC Marine who is emotionally damaged and in the real world would have been bounced out of his command position, but wasn't because he was so forth coming about peeing his pants while facing nighttime launching off of an aircraft carrier in the dark. Save your credit or money for another book.

This author can write!
Held my attention from the first words. Without giving away the story, there were passages that made me uneasy even sad it is a story of strong men and women of success and failure of pain and sacrifice. It gives an accurate description of not only the military but of the fickle nature of politics, the press and people.
Highly recommend to one and all.
