Summary

Celeste English and Ronnie Frazier are sisters, but they couldn't be more different. Celeste is a doctor's wife, living a perfect and elegant façade. But secretly, her marriage is falling apart and her need to control people around her threatens to destroy them all. Ronnie is an actress, living in New York. But she has no money, she has no home, and her life is held together by "chewing gum, paper clips, and spit." When their father dies, the sisters inherit a house in Prosper, North Carolina. Their mother, Della, would rather they forget about going there and dredging up the past. Neither of them suspect that their trip to Prosper will uncover decades-old secrets, family betrayals, and tangled relationships - or that it will make these two strangers realize that they are, and always will be, sisters.

Fantastic, Re-reading already!

If you could sum up Far From the Tree in three words, what would they be?

Fantastic, Great story-line.

What did you like best about this story?

A real page turner. The story draws you in.

What does Fran L. Washington bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She reads well. Wasn't always sure which character was speaking at times, but a very small issue.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It's sad in places and had to get to the end to find out what was going on but I couldn't put it down.

Any additional comments?

Excellent read! Great writing. Would definitely read another book from these authors.

My Favorite Book So Far, by Far!

This book made me laugh, cry and relate. I felt it was well written and very engaging. I heard they were making a movie. I will be first in line to buy tickets. You will not be disappointed. And, the narrator was excellent. Happy Listening!

Totally engaging

Loved the characters and the story. Touching but real. Characters very engaging. Narration excellent. I feel like moving to South Carolina. Made me think about a few things too in terms of why we do the things we do. Read this book.

I Love These Authors!

I recently discovered the novels written by Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant. I have really enjoyed listening to this book. I found it to be realistic and relevant to those of us with not so normal families. I highly recommend this book.

Outstanding!!!!!!

It was a very good story Della's finally telling her daughters about her life as a child was most important in having the family come together. Celeste was fortunate to finally acknowledge her pretentious life... I thought Della would let the Nikki and Celeste know that her mom Annie was a "successful caterer/ chef!!!

Forgiveness in Finding Myself

Loved this story of family finding their truth and forgiving themselves and each other on the journey to authentic purpose and unconditional love. The story was wonderfully read by the narrator. Her voice was soothing and on point.

A Good Read

I enjoyed this work! It wasn’t a favorite, but it held my attention and I loved the story overall. There were parts where it seemed kind of slow but by the last few chapters I was eager to learn the outcome and I was happy with the ending.

Drawn out

I had a long flight so the credit wasn’t wasted however the story was very long and drawn out. Not their best work but not the worse.
