About this listen
She’s America’s It girl. He’s Britain’s most eligible bachelor.
First impressions are supposed to last…but they’re losing track.
Summer in the Hamptons is predictable. Lavish parties. Polo matches. Private yachts.
So the surprise arrival of Charlie Marlborough causes an excited stir throughout the higher echelons of society. The upper crust he’s come to impress. Wealthy elites he has to impress, or risk losing everything.
Billionaire heiress Lili Kensington isn’t dazzled by Britain’s youngest duke. In fact, she’s not awed by him at all. She resolves to stay far away from New York’s newest deity, but that proves to be a harder task than she anticipated.
The only daughter and eldest child of American royalty, Lili is well acquainted with unwavering attention. She’s used to fake flattery and whispers about her family’s immense wealth. Accustomed to men trying to cajole their way into her bed and her bank account. Yet Charlie’s disregard for the obvious aspects of her identity only makes her more confused about his true character.
Each time their privileged worlds collide, Lili’s and Charlie’s perceptions of each other shift. They put on acts in public, but stop performing when they’re alone. Motivations become murky. Attraction develops into intimacy. Lust starts to look a lot like love.
She swore she’d never fall for a false god.
He never intended to fall at all.
Even patricians can’t lay perfect plans....
C.W Farnsworth is becoming an author that I love to read or listen to and this audiobook was fabulous.
Now I have to admit I haven't read the books about the Kensingtons before these book, which are about Elizabeth's parents. But honestly it did not make a difference as this is the next generation of Kensington's.
In False God we delve into the world of the wealthy, privileged and successful...Oh what it must be like to be able to have everything you could possibly want..
Elizabeth aka Lily is a member of a hugely wealthy family and we start the book with Lily being in the stables where she meets a stunning Englishman,Charlie.
They chat and have a connection its a brief exchange but later Lily overhears Charlie saying something hurtful about her.(which is a misunderstanding)So when they meet again she ignores him and acts like she doesn't know him.
Charlie is the Duke of Manchester inheriting the title from his father when his father passed away, leaving Charlie with the title and a whole heap of debt.
He is trying to fix it and that is why he is in the U.S.
Through-out the book Lily and Charlie keep meeting in different senarios and events which most of the time end in Sexy times and one of them walkng away.
But with each encounter they fall more and more in love with eachother,But Lily lives in the U.S.A and Charlie lives in the U.K...Lily is wealthy and Charlie is slowly losing his wealth to get out of debt, and he is keeping it a secret.
Will the secret ruin everything!
Charlie is a dirty delicious Duke when he is with Lily and they are super HOT together....I felt really bad for Charlie as he is dealing with so much pressure and responsibility to save his families legacy. He tries to maintain that everything is ok and that his families wealth isn't slipping away with every rejection he recieves from investors etc.
Lily is strong and independent and even though she has more money than she will ever need she still decides to work and have a career.
She has this bravado of being tough and unaffected by anything but inside she is vunerable and with Charlie she lets go and she can be herself...she never has to pretend with him.
I found this book a little bit slow at times and you have to pay attention to all the characters and who is related to who...It also surprised me because I thought I knew the way this story would play out,but I was totally wrong and it didn't go the way I expected it to go,which I was relieved about I was glad I was wrong.
But for me once I got into the story it is actually a very romantic and beautiful love story with sizzling hot chemistry between Lily and Charlie...Who are brought to life with the voices of Mackenzie Cartwright and Shane East..Who are both brilliant traversing between an English accent to and American accent. They do an excellent performance of all the characters and really make this story shine.I loved listening to them.
This is a wonderful story which is well written and amazingly performed.
I enjoyed it very much.
5 Stars.
