Brilliant Psychological Chiller

Would you listen to Falling Awake again? Why?

It's very rare that I would listen to or read novels more than once, but I would certainly recommend this book to other people and I intend to read more by the same author.

What did you like best about this story?

It is SO well written, sinister and gripping. The author uses words beautifully. And there's a real psychological depth to the story.

What does Rachel Shirley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I enjoyed Rachel Shirley's narration. She brought the story to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have liked to have listened to it in one sitting. I found myself creating jobs that would enable me to listen to it while I worked.

Any additional comments?

This is a very original book with a lot of unexpected twists and turns. I loved it.

Truly Awful!

This is one of the worst books I have read. The narration was stilted and difficult to listen to. I don’t know which was worse, the book or the narration

Poor narration but ok book

After reading PB's review of the audiobook I was really looking forward to an engaging, un-put-down-able book but was sorely disappointed. The story itself was alright, nothing special, a very predictable ending with quite a lot of unsuccessful attempts at eroticism along the way. There was very little suspense and no twists or turns.

What really let the book down was Rachel Shirley's narration, I'm afraid she simply cannot act and her attempts to pronunciation clearly made her sound like an non-English speaker grappling with the language. I found her narration very grating. For example she pronounced "oscillation" as "osk-ill-ay-shun" at least twice, there is no K in oscillation!

Sadly, I will be returning this book to Audible, I have no desire to sit through it again. If you are thinking of reading this book, I would avoid the audio version and get the print version instead.
