About this listen

Tenshi (a Death Angel) is thrust into the human world to torment and kill a young woman named Emica. Within moments of his arrival on the surface, everything goes wrong. Injured and with no way of returning to his place of origin, he is forced to face the stains of his existence and failures, including his newfound feelings for Emica. Failure to kill Emica will result in his own death by the goddess Izanami. Before he can confess his feelings, the world is greatly shaken by the declaration of war. The goddess Izanami and the god Izanagi are hellbent on ending their eternal feud and at the cost of the human race. Tormented with this knowledge and his unrequited love, Tenshi is sent on a secret mission to stop the war. With the girl he secretly loves by his side and doom hiding around every corner: can Tenshi save the world, Emica, and his own soul before the apocalypse?

for me, my initial thoughts of the narrator were that he was too slow and stilted and didn't capture my attention. after increasing the speed these thoughts fell away and I was able to get into the storyline. It was entertaining and a great concept, especially the the mission they embarked on. Fallen death angel instantly in love with the person he was sent to ultimately torture. Tenshi’s perspective was interesting, particularly his unfamiliarity with the human world and the way he had to learn and adapt as he went. His desire to protect Emica, despite his original purpose, gave his character a sense of vulnerability that I enjoyed.
Emica’s characterization didn’t resonate with me as strongly. She often felt immature, which may appeal to some readers but wasn’t a dynamic I personally connected with.

I loved the narration of George Ellington

Tenshi is a death angel sent to Earth. His job is to torture a Emica soul until she takes her life ends and her soul is sent to Hell. What was supposed be straight forward, but on day one, he loses a fight to Emica's life angel. He is severely injured, and ends up sleeping on her couch. Emica and her friends teach Tenshi what it means to be human.
A great triller.
