About this listen

I’m the bad boy of baseball. And she’s the good girl who’s meant to repair my image. Falling in love with my pretend girlfriend is not part of the plan…

My life is a mess. My career is in serious jeopardy because of one stupid decision that had disastrous results. I’m stuck on the injured list, for who knows how long, and losing endorsements because of my reckless behaviour.

It’s only a matter of time before my team decides I’m too much trouble to keep around.

The last thing I should be doing is swooping in to rescue a perfect stranger from some jerk at a bar—because of course a photo gets taken of her in my arms.

Now the last shot I have at holding onto everything that matters, is a curvy redhead who has no idea who I am and isn’t all that impressed by the mess I’ve thrown her into.

For some reason Sadie agrees to help me, and now I’m forced to spend time with a woman who might be the only person to see the real me. A lot of time. Even more so when she moves into my apartment.

With every fake date we go on, her warmth and smiles start to chip away at the ice around my heart. But what can I offer a woman like her? I’m nothing but a reckless asshole and a cocky baseball player with a past I’d rather no one knew about. I don’t let people get close to me, I don’t do relationships.

But when our arrangement comes to an end, I can’t bring myself to walk away.

How can I convince my fake girlfriend to give me a real chance when the secrets from my past won’t stay hidden?

Fake the Game is the second book in the Vancouver Tridents series. Maverick is known as the Bad Boy of baseball. However he is not as bad as the world thinks. He grew up in the foster system. He has two brothers that he would do anything for. His youngest brother has been caught up in drugs and trouble. Helping his brother usually make Maverick look bad. Sadie was at the bar waiting for her friend when Maverick saved her from her ex. Maverick’s agent suggests that he date Sadie to improve his image. To make maverick look more reliable and ready to settle down.

Heather Firth and Dane Anderson did a fantastic job narrating this book.

And Julia Jarrett is off again with her second home run for her Vancouver Trident series. This one features Maverick, a loner for the most part. He is the grumpy on, but the one who rescues his brother in his time of need. It's just that he is the one that gets in trouble when he does, and now he is on thin ice with the team. Helping Sadie out when she is in trouble in a bar just adds to the craziness since a picture of him carrying her out is posted. Now she is going to play his fake girlfriend to try and get him out this mess. But what happens next to this broody man is the miracle.Julia is warm and she pulls out the best in Maverick. But will she win his heart? Jarrett masterfully weaves their love story as the bad boy falls for the good girl. It's a push pull relationship as they begin, and a slow burn. The question is will the fire ignite? Loved this one, it's about seeing the person for who they really are, family, whether blood or not and a true heart.

Dane Anderson and Heather Firth are the story tellers for this one and they are amazing together. Perfectly cast, the characters come alive with their voices. Anderson plays the broody Mav and he brings out all of his grumpiness and turns it to the teddy bear he is. Firth is Sadie, and her heart shows from the start. She finds the essence of Sadie and brings her kindness and love through. Loved this performance.

It's a homerun!

Fake the Game is a stand alone story in the Vancouver Tridents series. Maverick and Sadie had very small parts in the first book so you can easily pick up their story with this one. I appreciated that the characters spent weeks getting to know each other when they started the fake relationship, and I liked how the relationship developed.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Heather Firth & Dane Anderson. They both did a great job with their narration.

I received a copy of the audiobook at my request, and the opinions here are my own.

I first read this in KU, and I loved it just as much as the first book in the series. It is every bit as wonderful as an audiobook!! Lots of spice, and lots of Romance too. Baseball Romances are my favourite, and this series is excellent. I'm so excited for the third book to be released in audio, and for the remaining 2 books to be available both to read and to listen to.
Brilliant writing and excellent narration from both narrators, I loved this so much!! ❤️❤️❤️

🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧

You know what? I need to experience more Julia Jarrett stories because this woman is easy and I appreciate her style so much! Every story of hers that I have experienced so far has unfolded so organically and realistically with little to no dramatics. Yes, there’s conflict, but not dramatics just for fun and I LOVE HER SO MUCH FOR THAT!

But I digress, let’s chat about ❤️Maverick & Sadie❤️! These two worked like puzzle pieces. They not only fit perfectly, but they blended and grew because of each other. I can’t give you a play-by-play of the story, but I can say that Maverick has a backstory that keeps him guarded and closed-off and when Sadie comes along, it’s thru her strength and love that he can “break the chains of the past” and become the man he’s always wanted to be. He in turn gives Sadie the safety net she needs to come into her own and stand up tall and take no prisoners! Feel me? Not exactly? READ THIS BOOK THEN! *wink*

🎙️Dane Anderson & Heather Firth🎙️ made me feel all the things with their narration! I love it when narration is so perfect that you get lost in a story for hours at a time. That’s how it was for me with this story! Not only was the story itself one huge bearhug, but the performance leveled it up a notch and just made me incredibly happy.
