About this listen

Sue Stockdale is the first UK woman to ski to the magnetic North Pole. In this compelling memoir, Sue recounts her adventures and reflects on how she uses these experiences to inspire others to explore their own potential. Sue's early life marked her out as an achiever, and after her mother died unexpectedly, she turns to active pursuits to cope, achieving success in athletics and gaining inspiration from an Olympic gold medallist.

Entering the world of work brings a chance opportunity which changes the direction of Sue’s career. After responding to a newspaper advert, she is selected to join a team on an expedition to the North Pole. Following this success, Sue faces a low point in her life, losing direction, and heads off to spend three months in Chile.

Whilst in South America, Sue seizes another opportunity to join legendary adventurer Robert Swan on an expedition to Antarctica. Coming home with a can-do mindset, Sue’s ambitions are raised, and she skis to the North Pole from Siberia.

A year later, the call of the Arctic compels Sue again to join a team of strangers to embark on an expedition to ski across the Greenland Ice Cap. Faced with freezing temperatures and strong winds, their success looks to be in doubt.

Finally, Sue reflects on her life’s journey to date and shares important life lessons about risk-taking, managing change and optimism.
