About this listen

The last time Maureen O'Donnell saw Ann Harris, she was nursing a couple of broken ribs and reeking of alcohol at the women's shelter. Now Ann has turned up dead hundreds of miles away, in London.

Eager to escape some family difficulties of her own, Maureen travels to London to determine the circumstances of Ann's brutal death. In the seedy underworld of criminal exiles and dangerous drug lords, Maureen tries to piece together the horror of Ann's last days - and to save herself from a similarly ugly fate. The suspense ratchets up as, with visceral shock and grim wit, Denise Mina secures her place among the top-ranking writers of crime fiction today.

Loved it Great writing with brilliant narration kept me gripped right to the end.

Another great read

Just wanted to say that the narration of the various characters was top notch.
Story was a bit mixed up in places - probably clearer in just reading the book.
Have become a lifelong Denise Mina fan

Maureen o donnell is brilliant!

DM returns to her heroin and gives one another taste of gritty family life of people who manage to get buy when weaker people would not. And all wrapped around a mystery. Totally believable characters.

A story that draws you in.

I’m currently listening to the third book in the Gartnethill trilogy by Denise Mina and I cannot tell you how good they are. Experiencing them on audiobook brings an lifelike edge to the characters added to the fact it’s based in Glasgow just makes it more appealing. The narrator (Katy Anderson) is very talented with a wonderful earthy Glaswegian accent It’s like listening to your pal talking to you! All that being said the books are gritty and at times brutal, covering difficult but important topics like alcoholism, mental illness, murder and abuse, but not in an overly obscene way. I would recommend 100%!

*side note- there is quite a bit of shouting and swearing which didn’t go down well at the traffic lights when the window was down lol*

Fabulous

Enjoyable. Really getting to like this author and the narrator really brings it to life.

Not as funny as Garnethill but still a good read
