An elite private college. A hidden world. A devastating slow-burn that will leave you wrecked.

Twenty-year-old Anna was already different before her mother was murdered—and before she vanished for a year she can’t remember. When her former mentor returns, Anna embarks on a dangerous journey to Nightfall Castle, the mysterious private college her mother once attended, desperate for answers about her past—and the dormant power she’s ignored her entire life.

But Nightfall is not an ordinary college.

Something is terribly wrong within the castle’s ancient corridors. Initiates are disappearing, and the Aurkai—Nightfall’s most elite—know more than they’re willing to say. Blake, the most alluring and dangerous of the Aurkai, may be the key to uncovering Nightfall’s secrets—or the reason she never escapes them.

As the danger closes in, Anna realizes she may be next, and the truth behind Nightfall may cost her everything.

Discover the truth hidden within Nightfall Castle in this dark, seductive debut of The Cursed Realm Saga. A true genre bender you won’t want to miss!

This book is a bit of an anomaly for me. I did like it, and I think it has a huge amount of potential, but it was definitely a book I had to work for.

It is a very slow burn with a lot of miscommunication, secrets and things happening behind the scenes. It took me quite a long time to figure out what was actually going on, and there were times when I struggled to follow the story because the scene changes weren't always clear.

The author has a writing style that I'm not used to. I often felt like I was expected to fill in gaps from things that had happened off-page, and I found that difficult because I didn't always pick up on the small clues being laid out. I enjoy trying to work things out as I read, but here I sometimes felt like I was missing information rather than solving a mystery.

That said, I did like the characters and I loved the narration. Jacob Morgan and Emilia Bauer both did a fantastic job and I was completely happy listening to them. The narration definitely wasn't the reason I struggled with this book.

Despite my frustrations, I'm genuinely intrigued by the next book. I feel like there is so much more to this world and so much more to discover, and I suspect a lot of what happens in this book is laying the foundations for the wider story. I'm hoping the next book gives us a little more information at a time rather than drip-feeding absolutely everything.

Overall, I enjoyed it and I'm glad I listened to it, but it was hard work in places. It has a lot of potential, and I'm interested enough in the world and characters to continue the series.

loved the book but hard at times to get through
