In some series you do not have to read the books in order. That is not the case with HIVE. If you haven't read any of the other books, you need to start in order because there are LOTS of plot points revealed in this book which were brewing in the other two.

Otto's peculiar skills are explained and he continues to work on them. My boys (aged 8 and 10) were jealous of his computer-like talents (very hand for IT lessons at school ...). Romance blossoms (a bit) and there are lots of frantic action sequences.

My favorite characterization has to be Diabalous Darkdoom; famous super villain, highly intelligent, handsome ... but with a really silly voice which sounds rather like poor, timid Nigel. It made me crack up every time he came on.
