BRILLIANT!!

Grace Draven has become my new go to author!! This is an amazing book with strong characters. Yes you could say it’s a ‘beauty and the beast’ novel but it is an adult version all day long!!! All the characters were interesting and had great depth! Not a dull moment in the book!!! Off to buy another book belonging to this author! This book is seriously worth a credit or a purchase! Best book I have listened to In months!!! Well done!!

Fantastic Read!!!

**Spoilers** This book was absolutely fantastic for 90% of it. The characters were all amazing and had distinct individual personalities. The romance between Lou and Ballard was electric. You couldn't help but cheer for them. However, the ending felt rushed. I am still not sure why the curse was broken. I'm glad it was, but I don't know what the reasoning was? Because he got hurt? I also felt that Lou's magical abilities could have been explored more. I guess I just wanted to enjoy a happy ending more, be in the moments after the curse was broken and experience Ballard and company adjusting back to a normal life.

BEAUTIFUL STORY!

Of the many retellings of Beauty and the Beast or similar stories, this is one of my favorites.

I read this book a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely. Now I am thrilled to find there is this audio version. I do remember some parts a bit differently, specially concerning the cursed roses. Then again it's been a while since I read it, so I may not be remembering it correctly or I may be remembering another story, or the audiobook might have been edited. Either way it is a great story and Stacey Holmes did a great job narrating it.

This was my first time listening to Stacey Holmes, and I was afraid I might not like her as much as I like Gabrielle Baker, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Loved the main characters - they are strong willed and stubborn. Specially loved that the women were written with a backbone and not as doormats. The rest of the cast range from weak to wicked, to evil, to sleaze, and everything in between. The heroes and villains make you love them and/or hate them in equal measures.

To me it was worth the credit/money and my time so I highly recommend it. This is a beautifully told story, and I hope you enjoy this audio version as much as I did.

One of my top 10 books of all time

I love this book. I love that Louvean was a strong character and very straight forward. So many books I've read have this push and pull thing and I just hate that. I listened to this book from start to finish in one day...i couldnt stop. A good love story, good characters, good villains and a good book all around - spend the credit on it. Its worth it! Oh my forest king!

Disappointing

I wanted to like this story, the author has a nice style and the narrator did a fine job apart from a few mispronunciations... but I couldn’t engage with the characters at all... the descriptions of them and their character development had almost no lovable, attractive or redeeming quality...and while I have always loved the “Beauty and the Beast” story line I actually found myself rather grossed out by this one... had to call it quits when I got to the intimate scene between hero and heroine... just couldn’t get through it.

Not For Me

I have liked all of the other books by Grace Draven that I've read, but this one really fell flat, for me. I thought Radiance was a surprisingly good rendition of a Beauty and the Beast type tale, and felt like Entreat Me didn't come close to matching it. The heroine just wasn't really that likeable, to start with. I get that she's supposed to be a strong-willed woman who doesn't spend her time worrying about what people think of her, and that's great. But her constant control-freak bullying and threats of actual bodily harm toward almost everyone around her were over the top and not charming or clever. There was also no buildup or explanation to the main characters' sexual relationship. Sure, instant attraction does exist, but in this context we really need some sort of explanation as to why a widow who has been with no one since her husband's death would choose to suddenly fall into bed with an ensorcelled beast whose gnarly toenails she just got done clipping. The narrator didn't do it any favors, either. Her frequent and inexplicable mispronunciation of the letter "u" ("butt- cherd" for butchered, really?) was distracting. It seemed affected and made her accent sound fake. I enjoyed Draven's other books - loved Radiance - and I have no complaints about her writing style and descriptive abilities. She's also mastered the steamy sex scene. But I just couldn't get behind this one. I barely got through it on audio. Like I said, just not for me.

Engrossing

The characters are strong, the story is engrossing, and it had amusing banter. Narration was good. My only issue was difficulty in the beginning of being able to tell what time period the current chapter was in. Perhaps this was by design, but it made the story confusing. Once I was able to figure out what was going on, I found the audiobook to be well worth a credit.

A delightful surprise

Loved the characters, the relationship between Lou and Ballard was exceptional. Loved the Bantering between Ambrois and Lou, witty and charming. The flow of the story and majestic vibrancy kept me enthralled. Highly recommend this adult version of a childhood classic.

LOVED IT!

A unique and beautiful story

I loved this story. So creative and amazingly full of the variety and complexity of love, devotion and what is good in humanity. That’s not to say it was a fun story, much of it is quite grave. And I honestly wasn’t sure how it would end until the very end.

Entreat Me

So I was told going into this that it’s was one of the best Beauty and the Beast retellings and I couldn’t agree more. A unique spin on one of my favorite fairytales. I will admit it took a few chapters to get into it for me but then I loved it. Great narration too.

Elegant Adult version of a classic

By Grace Draven
Narrator Stacey Holmes

Grace Draven's writing style is like a warm blanket. When listening to her stories I imagine myself cuddled up while drinking cocoa and looking out at the snow. Warm and cozy, as I wrap myself in her story. (This is an amazing feat in itself because I actually hate snow/cold weather in real life 🤣)

I really enjoyed this story as I have all of her stories so far.

This is a remix of The Beauty and The Beast. The adult version. A middle age woman finds love in a man that thought he who has only known war and curses. It's a suttle love story. You know what's ultimately coming, but writing keeps you interested in seeing how this version plays out.

If you love a good love story, then this is a great one. For the love story. There were parts of the fantasy/magical plot that felt glazed over. But the love story was... well, it was lovely.

Love the narrators performance.

If you're interested here are my notes as I listened:

How Am I Just Knowing of This Book??? I'm so annoyed with myself for reading this two years late.

When exactly is this taken place? I picture a time before electricity but little things that are said make it seem too modern...

Why wasnt magic a bigger part of story?

Lorvean seemed to incite fear in people. Enough for them to warn each other to be careful around her. The word "Viper" was used a few times in her description. But she really didnt earn such fear. She did a lot of talking, but never really did any of the acts they feared. The only time she showed any real fire to me was when she got the Axe to chop down his door. Other than that, she did nothing but "talk" about what she "would " do. Even when she was captured, I expected more fight from her. I would have liked a real fist fight where she earned her reputation before getting captured. Even a few gut punches to Gavon when he and Cinnea snuck off.

Lorvean didnt use any magic in a meaningful way... I thought by this point she'd learn a spell or two

I didn't understand why they presumed the Ballard and his son would die? Did I miss something? I've listened to the ending twice and not so sure what exactly broke the curse...

Will they continue to use the time bending spell so they can live longer?

4 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟. Great book. I've become friends with the characters. This is for my top Tier books. The story is deep with many layers. I probably finished it in a day. I'll likely reread this one when I miss the characters or need a pick me up.
