Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Endurance by Scott Kelly.

From the NASA astronaut who spent a record-breaking year aboard the International Space Station - what it's like out there and what it's like now, back here. Enter Scott Kelly's fascinating world and dare to think of your own a little differently.

The veteran of four space flights and the American record holder for most consecutive days spent in space, Scott Kelly has experienced things very few of us ever have and very few of us ever will.

Kelly's humanity, compassion, humour and passion shine as he describes navigating the extreme challenge of long-term spaceflight, both existential and banal. He touches on what's happened to his body, the sadness of being isolated from everyone he loves, the pressures of constant close cohabitation, the catastrophic risks of colliding with space junk and the still more haunting threat of being absent should tragedy strike at home.

From a natural storyteller, Endurance is one of the finest examples of the triumph of the human imagination, the strength of the human will and the boundless wonder of the galaxy.

Scott tells space from human perspective

My first read/listen of space from an astronaut, narrated by the man himself.
Enthralling and captivating, a great insight into a man, a dream and goal and overcoming all obstacles to reach that goal.
The Right Stuff is now in shopping a shopping bag, waiting for my ride home while drinking a good IPA.
Thank you to Scott for sharing his journey.

Enjoyed it

Enjoyed this book just as much as Mike Massimino’s Spaceman.
Lots of detail and really opened my eyes to what being an astronaut really involves!

Fascinating and shoots from the hip!

Wow! I really enjoyed this! The story is well crafted - interspersing the story of a year long mission on the International Space Station with how a kid that wasn't going anywhere ended becoming an accomplished astronaut. I found myself sitting in the car long after a journey had ended to get my full fix!! Scott Kelly's dry humour and candid recounting of his experiences - the good, not so good, and the bad - made this a compelling tale for me.

I marked the Performance 4/5, which may be a little harsh... I liked that the author narrated himself - it made the personal comments more genuine, and delivered the witticisms exactly as the author intended. However, a few times I found the delivery of dialogues a small bit "wooden"...but it did not materially detract from my enjoyment of this title.

Anyone with an interest in space exploration and how the ISS works will definitely enjoy this title.

stunning and compelling

For those of us who sit here on earth ticking off the days, listen to this inspiration of a man. WOW what an amazing story! Absolutely brilliant , a heartfelt story from the heart and a truly epic legend of a great astronaut. Highly recommended ! I wish I could scrub this from my brain and enjoy again for the first time. Fantastic.

Superb

Astronaut Scott Kelly did an amazing job of telling his own personal account of his experiences on the ISS. I felt like I was with him all the way.

Good depth broken up between separate timelines

As a space enthusiast I often find a lot of things repeat the same information as astronauts must get asked the same 20 questions over and over and you often don’t get French insights. As a helicopter pilot and aviations enthusiast I often find things are dumbed down too much when aimed at the general public.

I didn’t find this the case in those book. It get like there was a lot of depth in the information offered and it was held together with engaging story telling covering many facets of his life.

Very enjoyable. I felt like the book could have been twice as long but it would have probably been at the expense of digestibility.

Made of the right stuff all right!

Scott Kelly said he had to read The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe when he was at the wrong College to get motivated in life. Well it worked. From the moment he went solo when learning to fly in the Navy to becoming a fighter pilot to becoming a test pilot then an Astronaut he is certainly mentally made of something that we are not. To volunteer to put your body through the rigors of space and then returning to earth, the mental torment of landing on a pitching aircraft carrier at night to knowing the discomfort you will be in when returning from space so that science can study your body? What a specimen. Best book best man best hero.

An excellent story about life in space

Despite coming across as a little arrogant on times I can fully forgive him when you consider his start in live and what he has achieved. A truly remarkable story of a very poor education achievement followed by a ‘divine ah ha’ moment when he read The Right Stuff and suddenly finding a purpose and goal in life.

The details of life aboard the ISS were really interesting and it was so nice to have the author read his own book.

An excellent book and highly recommended.

The book in hardback is excellent. However with Scott narrating, it is absolutely fantastic! Recommended!!!

Brilliant insight behind the curtains!

A wonderful read about the early life, steps and a mentality necessary to succeed in any endeavour. Very well narrated by Kelly himself. Will definitely recommend it to my fellow uni space junkies.

Good story, good narrator, crap audio quality

It is a very engaging story and full of insights into life on ISS. Scott Kelly does a good job narrating. To bad that the audio skips. I dont get how the publisher dont value their own product enough to have some quality control
