About this listen

Giant Post-Apocalyptic Disaster Saga of an American Family Surviving a New Ice Age

A brutal Ice Age grips the Earth… and survival hangs by a thread.

When an ambitious experiment to reverse climate change spirals out of control, the planet is plunged into an eternal winter. With temperatures dropping to unthinkable lows and chaos sweeping through the remnants of civilization, Jarred and his daughter Hope have no choice but to head south—or die trying.

Their journey takes a deadly turn when their car skids off the icy road, leaving them stranded in a frozen wilderness. Battling the relentless cold and dwindling resources, they soon discover they’re not alone in the snowbound forest.

Fiona, a hardened survivalist, has built a refuge stocked with everything she needs to endure. But when Benjy, a determined forest ranger with secrets of his own, seeks her help, her fragile sanctuary is thrown into turmoil.

As marauders stalk the frozen rivers and a ruthless warlord tightens his iron grip on the desperate, Jarred, Hope, Fiona, and Benjy are forced to band together. Their only chance of survival lies in a perilous trek southward—through a landscape where the cold isn’t the only thing that kills.

Endless Winter: Parts I & II delivers hours of heart-pounding action, desperate survival, and a fight for humanity at the edge of extinction. Will they endure… or will the ice claim them all?

You get well over 55 hours of listening of this dystopian setting of man-made endless winter in Northern parts of USA. Our gritty and resourceful female homesteader only has two significant males in her life - Ramses the ornery ram and Smoke the loyal Australian cattle dog. The disrupting event is the endless, heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures which cause many to flee South for warmer climes, among them Jared, the engineering lecturer and his teenage daughter, Hope. Our homesteader rescues Jared when he is injured trying to drive through hazardous conditions. These characters form the core family throughout the six volumes. They encounter natural disasters and human helpers and adversaries in their quest to survive and move to safer, survivable living conditions. There is mortal peril, ethical choices, betrayal, conflicting loyalties and changing relationship patterns in each book. There seems to be a death of one of the party in each book too, as they collect others to their group along the way. It may be because there are two authors, but I felt this tale was endless and became tedious as the formula was repeated with some variations of locale and personnel or natural disaster. It did not have the pace of books where Grace Hamilton was sole author. Another star deducted because there were some improbabilities as well as not thought through elements. An example of the former was all the herd of goats surviving with snow and ice everywhere yet all the rations available for days was a half cup of trail mix per person. Goat fodder was not well described or featured in how it was obtained. An example of the latter is the cave dwelling community they join. We're not told how they could have a garden without sunlight and the children born and raised there would have rickets from lack of sun exposure. There were other inconsistencies or situations which stretch credulity.

The narrator did an excellen job overall in maintaining consistency of voicing the main characters and conveying emotion appropriately. I was particularly impressed by his rendition of the drunken captain and his mercurial moods.

Endless adversity for quirky family in winter.

An ever lasting winter with extreme temperatures… and a struggle to survive, every person for themselves…

This is how the world now exists and the characters in this series will have to push their boundaries.

A very touching and interesting story about how things could be in a post apocalyptic world.

The characters are intriguing, strong and fragile, their emotions are often raw and intense!

The narrator’s performance was outstanding!

I have enjoyed listening to this series and was touched and sad at the end!.

Wow—what a brilliant, immersive story from two of the best post-apocalyptic thriller writers working today. Spanning nearly 56 hours, this epic delivers nonstop, edge-of-your-seat action, a desperate struggle for survival, and a powerful fight to preserve humanity on the brink of extinction.
The frozen world is brutal, the stakes are relentless, and the tension never lets up. You genuinely feel the cold, the fear, and the hope as the characters battle both the elements and what’s left of civilization. The big question remains throughout: will they endure… or will the ice claim them all?
Maxwell Zener’s narration is superb, dramatic, engaging, and perfectly matched to the tone of the story.
Highly recommended.

Wintery!
