Summary

When shy programmer, Charlie, is dragged to a "Magic Mike" club in Hollywood by his co-workers, the last thing he expects is to be pulled onstage. But when he's approached by Ramon, a dancer whose only focus is to bring him pleasure, something awakens in Charlie that can't be denied. Yet heated attraction only goes so far when one man dreams of true love and a life finally fulfilled, and the other is still grieving the one he lost, and the mistake that cost him everything. Can a realist and a dreamer from two different worlds move forward and build a future together, or will their painful pasts keep them from fulfilling their destiny? Contains mature themes.

Marvellous book. Worthy of so much more!

This book with its twists and turns, certainly keeps your attention. Maybe, I hope, that we shall see this on the big screen! I would certainly go to see it. Even if it were just on DVD/BLU-RAY, I would certainly purchase this. I can imagine Charlie David, especially when I think back to his performance in 'Mulligan's'. It would be a pity to see such a masterpiece like this, confined to paper, audio book and electronic reader.

Not for the literate

Grammatical and syntactical errors make the suspension of disbelief very difficult. The story is melodrama, but almost juvenilia. Are there no editors anymore?

Like this story

The writing did a good job building out the characters and the storyline. The characters jumped off the page and the narration was good and well paced.

Love, love, love

I absolutely loved encore. This is my second book by Ruth Clampett and she doesn't disappoint! I couldn't stop listening. Eric London is one of my favorite narrators, and he nails it. Can't wait for more books by Ruth !

Something was off

I don’t know what it was about this book but something was just a little off for me. There was a lot of back and forth and quite frankly I found the MC a tad on the annoying side. However overall the narrator did a great job and I liked how it was tied up at the end. Feels like could’ve stretched some of that out more and cut out one or two of the back and forth.

Problematic

The narration was spot on. The book on the other hand was highly problematic in numerous ways. The pandering and paternalistic attitude of Charlie and other characters toward Charlie’s disabled adult sister was the biggest issue I had with the book. Charlie’s lack of likability and childish point of view was another. He was unable to take any tiny bit of teasing without sulking and acting like a belligerent child. Also, his inability to respect Ramon’s boundaries and refusal to take no for an answer was alarming. Basically the MC was an overgrown petulant child masquerading as a mature adult. He had no social skills despite us being led to believe he was a successful and wealthy professional. Impossible.

Too overdone

The story had potential but pretty quickly devolved into overdone drama. The main character doesn't act like an adult male, instead is a thinly veiled stand-in for the intended reader: overloaded middle aged women who has too much responsibility on their shoulders and just wants a happily ever after with hunky guy sex. The main character repeatedly acted like an irrational teenage girl. The normalizing of irrational jealousy in this book was creepy. Yeeech.
