El 7 de marzo de 1687, un grupo de judíos conversos mallorquines, temiendo ser detenidos por la Inquisición, decidieron embarcarse rumbo a tierras de libertad. El mal tiempo frustró su huida, fueron apresados y, finalmente, 37 de ellos condenados a la hoguera en cuatro Autos de Fe, en la primavera de 1691.
