About this listen

For the first time, platinum-certified singer-songwriter Marina shares her singular observations of the human heart through poetry; this collection is essential.

Marina’s talent for powerful, evocative song lyrics finds a new outlet in her poetry. Each poem resonates with the same creative melodies and emotional depth that have made her an artistic sensation. Hailed by The New York Times for 'redefining songs about coming of age, and the aftermath, with bluntness and crafty intelligence,' Marina delves even further into trauma, youth, and the highs and lows of relationships in these profound, autobiographical poems to form a collection that transcends the boundaries of music and literature.

I rarely read poetry but this was a real treat. I found it very simple and accessible yet incredibly moving and fulfilling, with some of the poems being very loose and diaristic and some having a more conventional, rhyming stucture. I felt really satisfied after reading this. I felt whole. It's like listening to Marina deliver her poetry met my soul's needs. Fitting as that's what many of these poems are craving for. Satisfaction. Fulfillment. Feeling whole. Much of these poems touch on fame, success, money, relationships, careers and ask if it's ever enough. When is enough enough? I've listened to it now a couple of times and will come back to it when I my brain, body and soul needs it. Highlights include:

Aspartame
Butterflies
School of Life (mainly because I was there with her)
1,000 Black Nights
E-motion
Eat the World

A real treat. Raw, accessible and moving.
