Summary

Single mom Maggie Hayes puts up a tough front to hide her loneliness, spending her days in the courtroom as a lawyer and her evenings as a closet video gamer. Another heartache isn't worth the risk, not after her husband left her last year for a Hooters waitress.

When she decides to try dating again, a cute video-game-designing nerd seems like a safe bet - until he becomes the prime suspect in a murder.

Jeremy Rogers makes a good living designing video games, but nothing prepares him for the real world adventure of being accused of poisoning his own employee. Add in falling for a sassy attorney with a competitive ex-husband, a clingy blonde coworker, and a mammoth-sized dog that eats his furniture. Suddenly, fighting off a screen full of zombies or preventing an alien invasion seems like child's play.

Maggie and Jeremy find themselves embroiled in a game of death threats, lies, and betrayal. Maggie must learn to trust again while playing the most dangerous game of all, because defeat could mean not only losing her heart, but also her life.

laugh out loud moments

I have listened to the first book in the series so when I saw this I had to get my hands on it.
The main character Maggie is someone I did not expect in personality. She had doubts about her relationship with Jeremy after what her ex husband did to her. I actually found it really annoying at times especially when she doubted Jeremy not because of the murder but whether she should trust him in a relationship wise. I found her to be a hypocrite. She saw or was told something about Jeremy then she jumped to conclusion without talking it out with him yet when she was kissed by two other guys (they kissed her not the other way round) I expected Jeremy to walk in an catch her in the act and jump to the wrong conculsion which I couldn't blame him yet it never happened (catching her in the act). I wanted her to get her own medicine but unfortunately this never happened. She also knew what was going to happen, it was not like it was sudden and she is a grown women not a teenager, yet she let these men kiss her then she pushed them away. I mean What! She is meant to love Jeremy. The other thing that really got to me is attractton to someone else when she said she loves Jeremy. It did not feel like she loved him that much. All I can say is Maggie really frustrated me at times in this book and I don't believe she deserved Jeremy. He, poor thing tried so hard with her and she pushed him away and did not trust him at all when something came up. I honestly felt like slapping her.
However, I loved the humour in this book and I especially loved Edna. God she is funny! There are moments where you can't help but laugh out loud.
Would I read the next book in the series? Yes I would. I might not like the main character but I did find it funny.
There is one steamy moment in the book but it was not graphic. The author sort of skimmed over it.
I liked the narrator I thought she voiced the characters really well and put enough emotion to make them real.

Holy Geek Squad. That is a lot of nerds!

book )
"Holy geek squad. That is a lot of nerds!"
When one of the central programmers in a revolutionary new gaming concept is murdered, the company's owner, Jeremy (quinticentual nerd and big Star Wars fan) is called back from his romantic hiking holiday with Maggie (mother of two boys, divorcé and World of Warcraft player, lawyer, mostly normal if somewhat paranoid about commitment). Who killed Jim Edwards, and why?

This is a romance and murder mystery, but much heavier on the romance side. Maggie is a key member of a meddling book club with one of it's members, Edna, an inveterate crime solver. Amusing throughout (if the reader can stand all of Maggie's mental musings of doom) with a genuinely laugh out loud sequence near the ending. The whole story is somewhat surreal but good fun. The narration by Stacey Glembosci is good. She has a lovenly velvet rich voice, well intoned and nicely paced to make the most of the text. Good story delivery and voicing of the characters with just enough emotional imput.

My thanks to the rights holder who freely gifted me a complimentary copy of Easy Like Sunday Mourning (I love the title!) at my request, via Audiobook Boom. Good, amusing characters, though I personally would have preferred a bit more mystery, a lot less romantic musings, but overall an enjoyable book which should appeal to most cozy readers

Easy Like Sunday Mourning

The Page Turners are at it again! Maggie is finally ready to start dating again after her no good husband had left her for a Hooters waitress. A computer nerd who designs video games should be a safe choice, right? Maybe not... especially when there’s a murder.

Check out this cozy mystery for an engaging story, great narration, and lots of humor (I love Edna!).

Bears in the Outhouse

Bears in the Outhouse
The opening was a beautiful back-to-nature scenario which rapidly turned into a delightful farce, abruptly interrupted by . . . murder. Okay, you already knew this was a cozy mystery so that should be no surprise or spoiler. And if you enjoyed the first book in the series you'll remember many of the cast of characters. But if you are starting with this story, they are each introduced and any relevant tie-ins from book 1 are explained as you read, which is useful to remind you of who's who even if you did read book one! Ensemble cast with a different lead character for each episode means the series premise is sound. The development of clues and cohesion of the team is delightful, and there are several surprise twists and plenty of action for a camera, or even the radio drama narrator Jennie Marts' flexible voice creates from the script. Humor, mystery, romance--enjoy!

LOL FUN COZY MYSTERY, GREAT BOOK :)

This is the first book in the series I've read/listened to, and I LOVED it! I admit, I'm most into horror/scary, post-apocalyptic, zombies, etc so this was a very nice a refreshing break from that, I love laughing my a$$ off while in my car commuting to/from work, I got some interesting looks :) This was a great, fun, lovely book about a lady named Maggie, a single mom and attorney. While reluctant to trust and begin dating after her husband left her for a Hooters skank (LOL ;)), she meets a fellow gaming nerd, Jeremy. They get into all sorts of messes, and it's a great entertaining read. I highly recommend it, it was so fun to read :)

What a hoot!

This book is great fun, sure there's murder and attempts at framing and scrumbag ex-husbands, but overall the book is fun and inspiring.

The character development is a major win in this book, they're realistic and the book sees Maggie doing a lot of self-discovery and growth, it's thrilling, touching and wonderful to watch. The romance in the book is lovely, Jeremy and Maggie have great chemistry and I loved that Jeremy was persistent and yet patient, who wouldn't want to meet a man like that?

I loved all the twists and turns, whenever it looked like things were going well a wrench would get thrown into the mix and excitement followed. The mystery was well done, it wasn't obvious and was well constructed.

The narration is excellent, I loved the character voices, they were clear, easy to recognize and matched the characters personalities. The tone and pacing were great and I really enjoyed listening to the book.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Wonderful Mystery Romance

This one was a lot of fun and fairly clean. There was a somewhat detailed sex scene and some minor language sparingly used. So, I'd place it as a high school or older level read. The author did a great job with keeping the suspense up and also comedic relief going. There were a few scenes that had me laughing out loud. Overall, I would recommend this one to the mystery and romance readers, it's definitely a fun ride of a book. I absolutely loved the narrator of this book she did a wonderful job with the acting and I'll be checking out the other books she has read.

Great Story, Great Narration!!

Jennie Marts wrote another gem. I was laughing out loud with the great humor and imagery. Most of the characters in this book are very endearing. I loved how the author meshed romance with murder mystery and humor. Maggie and Jeremy are the focus couple in this book, along her friends and his coworkers. One of his employees is murdered and the adventure begins. There are accidents that happen, threats, betrayal, and sabotage. Maggie has an affinity for losing phones too. Edna, from the Page Turner Book Club, is an outrageous character with the things that come out of her mouth and bra. I loved how this book is a standalone listen and has tie in to another book, Another Saturday Night and I Ain’t Got Nobody. The page turner book club is a great group of women. Stacey Glemboski is a very talented performer. I love her distinguished voices for the various characters. She adds the right emotions, panic, tension and steam to the story. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator in the future.

Loved it!

Excellent cozy mystery with a touch of romance. Maggie is dating a new guy after her ex cheater husband threw her to the curb for a Hooters waitress. As she begins to believe that all men may not be cut from the sam cloth a murder occurs at his gaming company. Jeremy is the prime suspect and as Maggie tries to believe his story more accusations and secrets cast him in suspicion. Enter her ex husband and her book club friends and the mystery reaches a head and they begin to investigate, nerd style. I really enjoyed this book, which was wonderfully narrated with funny and entertaining characters. I look forward to more!
