E. B. White is best known for his children's books, such as Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and The Trumpet of the Swan. A columnist for the New Yorker for over half a century and coauthor of The Elements of Style, White hit his stride as an American literary icon when he began publishing his One Man's Meat columns from his saltwater farm on the coast of Maine.

White on Dogs, his granddaughter and manager of his literary estate, Martha White, has compiled the best and funniest of her grandfather's essays, poems, and letters depicting over a dozen of his various canine companions. White wrote two conic books Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little. However, I did not buy this for biography as this is not my interest. I did choose it because of the dogs. But the title of the book is misleading. The dogs are not very important. T And in fact crunched together become repetitious mainly about Fred. And some of the accepted norms on treating pets at that time are not okay now. The pieces are about all sorts of things, sometimes with only a passing reference to a dog. So if looking for a book on dogs this is not the one.
In fact, it feels like a carefully selected but random collection that needed a good title.
