About this listen

Dr Ruth Galloway, forensic archaeologist, spends a lot of time looking at death. But now death has found her, with the news that her long-time friend Dan Golding has been killed in a house fire.

Ruth's grief soon turns to suspicion of arson when she receives a desperate letter from Dan, sent the day before he died. He had made a ground-breaking discovery - and was petrified of the consequences.

Ruth is compelled to travel north to investigate further, alongside DCI Harry Nelson who is also drawn into the case. But where Ruth goes, so does her young daughter, Kate. This time, the risks are even higher.

I have enjoyed all of Elly Griffiths books about Dr Ruth Galloway.

What a pity the publisher changed the reader for this unabridged book.

The general narration was fine but I thought this reader was very poor on the mens' voices..

A good story spoiled for me by this.

If there are any more planned, please revert to the original reader.

The story in this was a bit odd and far-fetched, but okay-ish. I did get irritated by the fact that so much was made of the Lancashire, Yorkshire divide yet the accent that was used was Yorkshire NOT Lancashire. It also gets a bit over the top in the 'oh dear I am so fat and frumpy!' department (Ruth). I don't think I'd bother with another in the series, especially with this narrator.

Not brilliant

What did you like most about Dying Fall?

Like all Ms Griffths books this one was fantastic

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Ruth and little Kate, listening to like Kate growing up and how Ruth deals with her very new age without being silly.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I thought the way the fire at the brining was brilliantly written you felt you were with Dan as he tried to escape the flames, chocking on the black smoke

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I always cry in Ms Griffiths book but I also laugh at Nelson, waiting his cake an all.

Any additional comments?

I wish I had found her books sooner, can't wait to finish reading them all over again but this time I the right order...haha

Awesome read

Would you try another book written by Elly Griffiths or narrated by Clare Corbett?

I would probably read another book in the Ruth Galloway series (I have read all of them published so far) but I would hope that the character (and author) get over the 'I'm a mother now!' fixation. I understand the sketching of a character's concerns but the narrative's harping on the New Mother self-consciousness makes for irritating reading.

Mildly Enjoyable but Main Character Irritates

For some reason the narrator has changed and with it the accents of the characters. Apart from the accents being bad and stereotyped. The northern men, including g Nelson, sound like a piss take and cathbad suddenly isn’t Irish but sounds super posh. Doesn’t work. Please bring back the old reader or maybe hire Becky Hindley who reads for Kerry Wilkinson. She’d be great.

Bring back the old reader please!!
