Summary

Even after pre-ordering the pod that would allow them to play "Glendaria Awakens", Krista and Devin still had to wait months before they were able to experience the newest in VRMMORPG (virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game) technology. The wait was definitely worth it as they entered into a game world that was virtually indistinguishable from real life - apart from the obvious game elements of course.

After starting in a typical starting town, they learned everything they needed to survive in this new world. Journeying through the wilderness outside of town, the duo progressed at a good pace until they arrived at the starting dungeon. Their lives were drastically changed by this place with the unassuming name of "Goblin Cave".

After finding themselves in charge of their very own dungeon, Devin and Krista must figure out how to survive and thrive - all while fending off invading players.

This first book is a stat and table-heavy LitRPG Dungeon Core story - perfect for those who love stats and tables!

good basic lit-rpg story

Decent lit-rpg/dungeoncore story, the only issue is that the constant changes in stats of the main 2 characters are overdone. Well narrated, but even the good narration cannot quite overcome the constant break in the story from class/player switching overkill.

Entertaining and good introduction to the genre

Overall I enjoyed the book and narrators performance. I feel this would be a good book to introduce someone to the dungeon core genre. Stats and classes etc. were well explained.

Good start to this series

Most of the litrpg books I have read have not been in the dungeon core style, that is where the main character is the dungeon or some entity bound to it in some fashion, but this one worked well for me as the main characters settled in well to their new circumstances despite the manner in which they became trapped in the game. The narrator gave a very good performance, with pleasant and distinctive tones that helped to enhance my enjoyment of the story. This book is quite a short one, but during its running time the author manages to progress the story well and makes the main characters interesting enough for me to want to see the subsequent books in the series. [Note - I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.]

Fantastic first experience with litrpg

Realy loved this audio book! Went through it in one go, I simple couldn't put it down. Sarah's voice is very enjoyable to listen to. A bit too many stats and skills for me to remember them all, but that didn't take anything away from the great time I've had with this audio book!

Read this book!!!

story = Awesome!!! narration = Excellent!!! Great crunchy Gamelit story! Mr Brooks broke into the Gamelit genera with this as his first book. The genera will never be the same!!! Ancient stories tell of Mr. Brooks basement containing thousands of monkeys typing frantically on typewriters blessed by the kiss of a benevolent goddess to create such wonderful farfetched tails. Now we know it's true. WARNING: Do not listen to this book if you do not want to join the cult of Mr. Brooks. The first book starts your slippery slope and there is no redemption.

very crunch stats

was a solid beginning intro to dungeon core series, would love it to be longer. also the stays which I normally love were almost too crunch, would work just fine in print form but was hard to get through them on audio, still a good start

half a book

No build up. Lack a protagonist. If maybe the first 2 or 3 books were put together it might be a complete book. I wouldn't know as i will not be listening to another one.

Very short but entertaining

Jonathan’s other books are a must read in the GameLIT genre. This one is short and fun, but doesn’t connect with the others, that I noticed. Check out the other stuff and grab this too if you want more of Jonathan.

Can't wait for the next book

An original combination of Litrpg and dungeon core features with plenty of stats character development.

Good 1st book from Jonathan Brooks.

I've read quite a few of his books and have loved every single one of them. This is his first book. I believe. And I can see how he's gotten better over the years and also that a lot of his ideas he has had from the beginning. There are quite a few reviews here complaining about the stats. Sorry to tell you people that don't like stats... This is actually light on stats compared to his other books. At least in his Station Core series he has it set up so that you can skip the stats at the end of each chapter. I don't though. This is a really fun book and great look at a couple that become a dungeon and dungeon boss. (Not a spoiler. Happens pretty much at the start of the book.) This was a great start and I'm looking forward to book 2. The narration by Colton is wonderful. If you like fantasy, dungeons, monsters, delving and especially LitRPG, you are going to love this book.

Great book with too many stat tables

I genuinely enjoyed the story and the premise of the book but I think half the actual read time is spent going over stat tables rather than developing the plot. still a good book.

shorty but a goody

loved the different concept if this one and ends with well shit... haha jonathan brooks did great with this one and can't wait for 2nd book to hit audible. I think the narrator had a lovely voice when it came to females or even the AI units but the mail voices were a bit cringy for me personally

Fun little dungeon story

This is a short story that makes a great foundation for the next stories in the series. The narrator does a great job, and I enjoyed ny time listening to the story.
