We are all addicted in some way. When we learn to identify our addiction, embrace our brokenness, and surrender to God, we begin to bring healing to ourselves and our world. In Breathing Under Water, Franciscan Father Richard Rohr shows how the gospel principles in the Twelve Steps can free anyone from any addiction from an obvious dependence on alcohol or drugs to the more common but less visible addiction that we all have to sin.

His radical findings - based on decades of work with patients challenged by catastrophic drug addiction and mental illness - are reframing how we view all human development. In this award-winning modern classic, Gabor Maté takes a holistic and compassionate approach to addiction, whether to alcohol, drugs, sex, money or anything self-destructive. He presents it not as a discrete phenomenon confined to a weak-willed few but as a continuum that runs through (and even underpins) our society.

Story
Women's recovery can differ from men's, and each person's recovery is in many ways unique. That's why Stephanie Covington has designed A Women's Way Through the Twelve Steps to help a woman find her own path - and find it in terms especially suited to the way women experience not just addiction and recovery but also relationships, self, sexuality, and everyday life. Unlike many ''rewritten'' Twelve Step interpretations for women, this guide works with the original step language, preserving its spirit and focusing attention on its healing message.

Story
What did Jesus teach? Distilled from years of study and lecture, affirmed by nearly a million listeners over the last 50 years, Emmet Fox's answer in The Sermon on the Mount is simple. The Bible is a "textbook of metaphysics" and the teachings of Jesus express - without dogma - a practical approach for the development of the soul and for the shaping of our lives into what we really wish them to be. For Fox, Jesus was "no sentimental dreamer, no mere dealer in empty platitudes, but the unflinching realist that only a great mystic can be".

Story
This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all encompassing and ubiquitous, that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it. What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what? My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse.

Summary
Resentment. Fear. Self-pity. Intolerance. Anger. As Bill P. explains, these are the "rocks" that can sink recovery - or at the least block further progress. Based on the principles behind steps six and seven, Drop the Rock combines personal stories, practical advice, and powerful insights to help listeners move forward in recovery. The second edition features additional stories and a reference section.

Either act through love or fear.
As with all books I enjoy, I take away some very pertinent points that bring change in my life.
The message here is one of accountability for ones action and to make sure these actions are performed out of love for ones self and others.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes- I would highly recommend this book to anyone in recovery and in a twelve step program. The focus is on steps six and seven, which as important as they are, can be underemphasized by some people in working through the 12 steps. I will listen to this book time and time again. Well read- narrator's voice is very nice.

As I'm working my 6th and 7th steps, this helped put words to the mixed emotions and uncertainty that I was/am feeling. Along with support of my peers, this helped me see that the fear and rebellion that were coming was normal. I was able to feel as one of many and to take inspiration in the journey.
