Cece is in love. She has arrived early at her in-laws' beautiful lake house in Salish, Montana, to finish planning her wedding to Charlie, a cardiac anaesthesiologist with a brilliant future.
When Charlie asks Garrett, his best friend from college, to officiate the ceremony, Cece can't imagine anyone less appropriate for the task. After all, Garrett, a depressed baggage handler at the local airport, doesn't believe in marriage. But as she spends time with him and his gruff mask slips, she grows increasingly uncertain about her future, leading to an impulsive decision that will alter the three friends' lives forever - the events of that summer reverberating across fifty years and spanning generations.©2025 Eric Puchner (P)2025 Random House Audio

Loved this book,, its timeline updates of a marriage. Cece and Garrett should never have been the centre of the story, but fate has other plans. It’s a moving portrait of a marriage. It’s a powerful story of one young man’s path to self-destruction, despite all the love and support from a father desperate to save him. A tale of atonement and seeking forgiveness… it’s a powerful and beautiful book. The narration is perfect and top notch.

I very much enjoyed this audio version of the book. Compassion, humour, wisdom and wonder. The writer takes us on a long journey from youth to old age, featuring characters that are fully rounded. There's something here that makes me think of Jonathan Frantzen. Recommended.

Completely gripping

Very sad story, a great initial hook but the later chapters drifted slightly. Excellent on setting and scene.

Compelling family saga

Beautifully realistic novel of the hopes, dreams, tragedies, losses and enormous tenderness and love that unfold throughout our lives. I loved this novel from the first word to the last. There are few authors who’s words melt so seamlessly into one’s psyche. Bravo!
