About this listen

Parallel Earth, Resources Negligible, recommended for colonisation.

Before Thread, Dragons and Holds the Yokohama, Bahrain and Buenos Airies, three mighty colony ships from earth, delivered nearly six thousand colonist to their green, beautiful new home.

But just as the settlers started to adapt to their new home the world would change forever with the arrival of an unknown terror from the skies - the first thread falls that would consume everything in their part.

As the survivors come to terms with this new horror, a chosen few would search their new home for any hopes of fighting this new enemy. Could the tiny thread-resistant fire lizards prove their salvation?

I've been waiting for this release and it didn't disappoint. I read it when it was first released 1988 and it made a huge impression on me and it's impact has not waned over time. It's as brilliant as it ever was.

The brilliant start to it all

I've read Dragonsdawn at least ten times and the narrator was perfect. She literally brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion. Brilliant to finally have an unabridged version of this book.

The narrator absolutely rocked this book.

I first read this book in print about 30 years ago. It’s good to have the ability to read it again since becoming blind 9 years ago.
It’s still a brilliant story that I’ll always be ready to read again.

Brilliant to be able to read this again

This story may take place before all the other books in the series, but whatever you do, don’t start here if you’re new to the series. It doesn’t take you much for a ride in terms of plot or character development, rather it gives you some background to how settlement on Pern began.

One for the serious Pern fans
