I nearly threw the letter about the inheritance away with the recycling. Late for work, worrying about how I would afford new school shoes for Kate, I just assumed it was a mistake. Summary
School should have been the safest place....
For Lizzie Riley, switching her eight-year-old son Tom to the local academy school marks a fresh start, post-divorce. With its excellent reputation and outstanding results, Lizzie knows it’ll be a safe space away from home.
But there's something strange happening at school.
Parents are forbidden from entering the grounds and inside, there are bars across the classroom windows. Why is Tom coming home exhausted, unable to remember anything about his day? What are the strange marks on his arm? And when Lizzie tries to question the other children, why do they seem afraid to talk?
Tom’s new school might seem picture-perfect. But sometimes appearances can be deceiving....

Ridiculous
Cartoon characters, particularly Tessa; I had to skip over her chapters as they annoyed me so much. Comments about school security were naive - schools do have locked gates, CCTV and signing in procedures. It was like listening to a children’s book but with swearing. I was determined to listen to the end (with much skipping) to see how much more ridiculous it got, yet the ending seemed sensible in comparison! Not my favourite listen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book which moved briskly along whilst allowing the plot to emerge slowly but cleverly. I must commend the narrator Imogen Church who was so easy on the ear and brought the story to life.

Almost put off by other reviews but glad I bought this
It took a bit of getting past the whinging voice of Lizzy but once engaged in the story I really enjoyed this.
I don’t agree it’s implausible as said in another review - just unusual. No spoilers here but if you want something a bit different with a twist do get this book.

Oh dear!
Farcical narration. Much of the narration was so quiet that I either had to hope it wasn’t important and not listen or turn it up so high that I jumped out of my skin when someone else started to speak! I thought Tessa was a man based on voice. There were so many characters with silly, sing song voices and inflections in the wrong places. It was very hard work to complete and not enjoyable. Sorry to be so negative, I’m in awe of most narrators but this one isn’t for me. You may enjoy.

Awful narration!
I only managed to persevere to chapter eight and had to give up due to the awful narration; the repertoire of voices was very limited and unbelievable for the majority of the characters; I found this to be distracting and whilst it grieves me to waste money I opted for self preservation in the end.
Would I recommend this audiobook Absolutely not!

Don't waste your money on this one!
It felt like watching paint dry. Terrible narration. At times I listened at 150 speed. I forced myself to listen up to chapter 43 and then skipped to the final chapter. Not worth your time and money.
