Summary

A homicide detective in the dark. A serial killer on the loose. Both have their obsessions in a nerve-twisting novel of suspense by New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton.

Austin homicide detective Jordan Poe is hunting a serial killer she fears is the same man who assaulted her sister, Avery, two years ago. The details line up: the victims are the same age, same type, dead by the same grim MO. Luckily Avery survived. But the terrible memories linger, making Jordan more determined than ever to stop this monster in his tracks.

Texas Ranger Carter Spencer isn’t one to poach on a detective’s territory. Yet no matter how resentful a capable lone wolf like Jordan is, when she is attacked at a third crime scene and suffers a trauma that leaves her with limited vision, it’s up to Carter to help Jordan navigate a world she no longer recognizes. He needs her instinct, her experience, and her fearless resolve to crack this case. A case that’s about to get even darker.

A stranger is watching. He’s closing in on his ultimate prey. And no one but the killer can see what’s coming.

good story

With this Mary Burton book not being a series the author does not have to think of the next book. Therefore unlike most books these days when in peril the main characters could be hurt or killed. This leaves a greater sense of apprehension with the dangers. The characters are good but the stubbornness of the protagonist is to the side of childish at times. Though over it's well worth a listen.

Too many narrators

Too many narrators. makes it too confusing and the quality was bad. It sounds like one narrator had to redo parts but in a different studio so she ends up sounding like a different person in the middle of a paragraph.
The story was great. Up to Mary's usual standard.
This has put me off buying any audio book with multiple narrators

Too many narrators - stopped listening

I love Mary Burton’s books, but sadly I’ve had to stop listening to this one. There are several people reading it and, without notice (sometimes mid paragraph), somebody different suddenly starts reading.
I found it difficult to follow the story because of this and could not get to grips with the characters.
The choice of performers is so important and key to the listening experience - I have no idea who thought this would be a good idea.
Definitely would not recommend this audio book for this reason. Such a shame as I’m sure it’s a great story. Very disappointed.
