Summary

After a car accident killed her parents when she was a child, Bronagh Murphy chose to box herself off from people in an effort to keep herself from future hurt. If she doesn't befriend people, talk to them, or acknowledge them in any way, they leave her alone just like she wants.

When Dominic Slater enters her life, ignoring him is all she has to do to get his attention. Dominic is used to attention, and when he and his brothers move to Dublin, Ireland, for family business, he gets nothing but attention. Attention from everyone except the beautiful brunette with a sharp tongue.

Dominic wants Bronagh, and the only way he can get to her is by dragging her from the boxed off corner she has herself trapped in the only way he knows how...by force.

Dominic wants her, and what Dominic wants, Dominic gets.

attempt to justify domestic violence and misogyny

I expect some problematic tropes in romance stories but this is the worst one yet. The level of misogyny and attempt to justify domestic violence was over the top. People like "bad boys" but this was just silly. The writing was very repetitive, with every interaction being explained in detail by each character, either because the author thinks that the readers are incapable of understanding the plot, or they had a word count to fill. Either way, awful writing, awful story.

I enjoyed it

I am happy the whole series is available on audible plus. I find the Irish accent that Bronagh speak a little hard to understand but the story itself was interesting. I love Bronagh's character and enjoyed the story.

Update:
I have now finished reading the whole series and enjoyed it emensely, I must say that the accents of all the wife grew on me as i listened each book. The characters are captivating and I absolutely love the steamy love scenes and banter between the characters. A brilliant series. It makes my Audible plus subscription worthwhile.

Conflicted- Funny but questionable toxic relations

Good bit of fun listening not to be taken too seriously. Typical in format but unique comedy and interactions between characters.
some sketchy characters and questionable relationships, but some great one liners.

Turned out better than expected 👍

TBH, some of the reviews were iffy, but gave this one a try. Not read anything by this author and when I’ve encountered bad reviews before, I’ve personally not found them all justified. It’s all down to personal opinion I think.
Anyway, as a fairly new Audible subscriber, all the narrators have been American, so was really surprised that this one was Irish, but it did make perfect sense as the main character was Irish and it was set in Ireland, so a nice change and well thought out. Sadly, when the characters are English but read by Americans, they all tend to sound faux cockney and sound like Dick Van Dyke in the original Mary Poppins😂
I was really surprised that the book titled ‘Dominic’ was mainly about the girl and read by a woman from her perspective 🤔 so that was a little odd to me.
I will agree with one reviewer who said the story went into far too much irrelevant detail that wasn’t necessary and I have to agree, that was the case in parts. I was also a little annoyed at the weakness of the female lead at times as she was normally so feisty, particularly when ‘Dominic’ called her a slut and was quite offensive and she didn’t call him on this, especially as she reacted to just about everything else he said to her. If it were me that had her temper, he would have found himself picking up his teeth with a broken arm!
Overall, it did get better as it went along and I enjoyed it more and more. There were some really funny and cringey moments, I think everyone can identify with growing up. I did like the characters but Dominic was a bit of a wanker at times.
An easy listen and enjoyable for the most part but I’m glad it was free with my subscription.

I am going to listen to a couple of the others now that are in this series, they are also included, so if they suck I won’t feel too bad.

Worth a listen, not terrible. I’ve read/listened to far worse😁

A bit flat

Good story but the narration came across a bit flat. I'm not sure if it was because of the writing style or the narrator.

YA- heroine was immature and turned me off.

This book had promise with the angst in the beginning despite it being a YA novel. However, the Heroine's immaturity soon turned me off of this book. Narrator's female voice was pleasant but her male voice was non- existent. I could not finish this book.

high school kids

Any additional comments?

Story itself pretty boring. Worse - it's all about high school students. Nowhere in the description did it say 'YA'.

Horrible Male Voice

The female narrator made the girl sound like dude and the dude sound like a girl. Very hard imagine strong fighter dude when he sounds like a chic.

YOU DON'T FORCE GIRLS TO KISS PEOPLE

1. It starts off funny but..I...I can't with forcing people to do kissing booths for school fundraisers, so many things in this book are just so...dated...and cringe inducing. I can't finish this, she's crushing on and making excuses for a kid who grabs her ass without her permission.

2. Thank God I read the reviews before I wasted too much time on this, I'm not into hearing about the love lives of kids.

Teen Dating Violence

This book normalizes and accepts teen dating violence. Romanticizing forced encounters and letting the aggressor get the girl.

What did I just listen to?

First the narrator. She is going on my small list of narrators to avoid. Every time she took a breath she made a loud nasally intake that popped. Every time! It also sounded like she was chewing gum.
My biggest pet peeve!
Her male voices sounded more feminine than the females but that didn’t bother me much at all.
Accent was ok.

I see almost all the rest of the books are narrated by her so no more for me.

Now the story if you can call it that.
I don’t get it
The ENTIRE book is the female being a nasty childish bitch while Dominic is being somewhat sweet to her. I got tired of hearing about her fat ass also.
That was her only good quality.
The story didn’t pick up until literally the last 2 chapters but it was to little to late.
I’m kind of curious about Damien but not enough to forge on.
I’m surprised I finished it and feel bad giving such a nasty review but I am so annoyed at the narrator and I’m typing out of annoyance all the way around.

The most immature characters!

I thought this book would have potential , but 1/3 into the book and i couldn't take how immature the characters were. It read like a middle schooler's diary. I've never read books by this author, but if this is the type of books she writes, I think i'll pass. Too old to be reading about kids that act like my middle schoolers or throwing tantrums like my toddlers.
