About this listen

Every leader wants a great team, and every team wants a great leader. Yet over two-thirds of the employees in the US are disengaged and unmotivated.

Leaders are frustrated. Challenged to grow their organizations in a complex, rapidly changing business environment, they strive to achieve company goals while struggling to keep five generations in the workplace aligned, accountable, and moving their company forward.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. Having partnered with organizations in a variety of industries, from privately held $25-million-dollar companies to publicly traded Fortune 500 ones, Alissa DeWitt has identified what works to cultivate a high-performing and thriving workplace culture. And it all starts with leadership.

In this book, you will learn Alissa’s proven system to empower organizations to ditch command-and-control leadership—which limits growth and creates a toxic culture—and to develop coach leaders who successfully engage their teams. This transformation has proven to increase profitability and productivity while dramatically improving relationships and results.

In addition, you will discover:

  • Road map to transform your leaders from boss to coach
  • Key leadership principles that work across industries
  • Relatable stories from real-life client scenarios
  • Effective methods to build a stronger company culture
  • Thought-provoking questions to guide your leaders on where to focus their attention

This system, The Coach Approach to Leadership™, couples the heart of servant leadership with the hands and feet of coaching to equip leaders and leadership teams to take their businesses and their lives to the next level.

Alissa DeWitt, a Master Certified Coach, is the creator of The Coach Approach to Leadership™, a transformational leadership journey proven to develop coach leaders, build leadership dream teams, and create breakthrough business results.

I first read Alissa’s book in January of this year, so the release of the Audible version provided a great opportunity to re-visit the content in a different format.

Like many people, I have both witnessed and been on the receiving end of my fair share of poor leadership over the years. So I was intrigued to learn about Alissa’s analysis of and solution to this problem.

As someone who works with learning and development teams to help them get better results from their training programmes, Alissa immediately got my attention when she talked about how so many leadership programmes fail because they don’t lead to consistent application of the skills learned on the programme.

The genius of Alissa’s approach, I believe, is that application of skills is absolutely baked into her programme - it’s called the ‘coach approach’ for a reason.

The second stroke of genius is that Alissa’s approach is to get leader’s to look inward first: to discover and understand their own leadership DNA and it’s current impact on the organisation.

If you think this sounds horribly egocentric, in reality, it’s the exact opposite. It’s only with that solid grounding and understanding of self that leaders can get better at communicating, building trust and inspiring their team to achieve more.

And I love that the book is peppered with real-life examples of how Alissa’s approach can gradually shift a leader from a command-and-control style of leadership into a coach approach.

If you aspire to be a leader or find yourself thrust into that position unexpectedly (or unwillingly) this is the book (and the approach) for you.

Application of leadership skills is baked in the coach approach…
