Summary

In this classic collection of four novellas, the grand master takes you on irresistible journeys into the far reaches of horror, heartache and hope.

'Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption' is the story of two men convicted of murder - one guilty, one innocent - who form the perfect partnership as they dream up a scheme to escape from prison.

In 'Apt Pupil' a golden schoolboy entices an old man with a past to join in a dreadful union.

'The Body' sees four young boys venture into the woods and find life, death...and the end of innocence.

'The Breathing Method' is the tale of a doctor who goes to his club and discovers a woman determined to give birth - no matter what.

So so good.

Maybe the best Stephen King book full stop. The performance is fantastic as well. Have listened to this a number of times and enjoyed every one.

One of the Best King Books, top 5 at least

Any additional comments?

What a brilliant selection of stories. Many writers would be happy to have produced just one of these masterpieces in their life time and king comes out with four in one book.
You will know the Shawshank Redemption and the Body as they were extremely popular films (The Body was used as the basis for Stand By Me) All 4 stories are superb and a must for any King fan or someone just wanting to dip their toe into the King back catalogue.

excellent as ever

all 4 stories are gripping, and the narration is different on all four, even though all read by the same person.
they all feel different, as they should.

Kings best writing

It’s no surprise that two fantastic films have been produced from stories in this book as the quality of writing is superb.
In this book he showcases his talent for writing straight fiction as good as any contemporary author.

Great value!

Great value of 4 books in one, but would be nicer if each book was labeled so I didn't have to go looking through each chapter trying to find the end of one book and the beginning of the next.

No chapter start for each novella

No chapter name's to differentiate between novellas. other than that it's 5*. Two of the most timeless stories turned into legendary films (Shawshank Redemption & Stand by Me) both my desert island books and movies of choice.

Not even the master reader Frank Muller could ...<br />

The book is what I called "printed because there are nothing else to be printed and people will buy it anyway therefore let's do it"
Poor writing, inaccurate "history", poor stories, low level language. Frank Muller tried hard to save the book but was a impossible task from the very beginning.

A Master Spinner of (deliciously long)Tales.

This collection is a brilliant reflection of Stephen King's ability to tell longer, varied tales and stories. Excellent read!
