 Das Sturm-und-Drang-Drama "Die Räuber" vollendete Schiller als 20jähriger. Dem achtzehnjährigen Schiller war der Stoff der Räuber in Form einer Anekdote in die Hände gefallen, und er begann ihn zu dramatisieren. Zwei gegensätzliche Brüder bringt Friedrich Schiller in seinem dramatischen Erstling auf die Bühne: den missgestalteten Intriganten Franz Moor und Karl Moor, den Schönheit, natürliche Liebenswürdigkeit und Liebesfähigkeit auszeichnen; Karl muß jedoch erkennen, dass seine Gesellen Mordbrenner sind, dass er nicht das Recht auf Selbstjustiz hat und dass seine Anmaßung ihn in immer tiefere Schuld verstrickt. Das Stück ist "ein Reißer", prall, voll Emotionen und mitreißender Sprache.
