About this listen

Meet Eve: four kids, one hectic job, two complicated exes and a lot on her mind. Like, is sex with the vet better than no sex at all? Is she too old to shop at Topshop or dye her hair pink? Are violets the new geraniums? What the hell is in the fridge for supper? And, most important of all, has she let the love of her life get away too easily?

I love this novel. I've got the hard copy and have read it several times. However I've only now got the audio book and while generally it's not bad. I really dislike the accent work from the reader. As an ethnically Indian Brit, it really bothered me that she gave the Indian characters in the book Indian accents even though there is no indication that they are from India, especially the young daughter. Parents? fine, I'm sure they're immigrants but the daughter most likely would be born here. As a British born Indian, I found it really off putting to hear her doing the accent for all the Indian characters. Also the American accent just kept slipping in and out. seemed like this reader just wanted to have fun doing different accents rather than actually thinking about what was right for the characters.

Great Novel! Reading not as great.

Carmen Reid's best book in my opinion. The narrator was the most annoying I have ever listened to. She made all the characters sound like they had zero intelligence. The voices she gave the children were cringe worthy.
