Summary

From Dean Koontz, the international bestselling master of suspense, comes an epic thriller about a terrifying threat to humanity and the singular compassion it will take to defeat it.

Woody Bookman hasn’t spoken a word in his eleven years of life. Not when his father died in a freak accident. Not when his mother, Megan, tells him she loves him. For Megan, keeping her boy safe and happy is what matters. But Woody believes a monstrous evil was behind his father’s death and now threatens him and his mother. And he’s not alone in his thoughts. An ally unknown to him is listening.

A uniquely gifted dog with a heart as golden as his breed, Kipp is devoted beyond reason to people. When he hears the boy who communicates like he does, without speaking, Kipp knows he needs to find him before it’s too late.

Woody’s fearful suspicions are taking shape. A man driven by a malicious evil has set a depraved plan into motion. And he’s coming after Woody and his mother. The reasons are primal. His powers are growing. And he’s not alone. Only a force greater than evil can stop what’s coming next.

Good but a bit soppy...

So, I've loved Dean Koontz's books since I was a child, loved how quickly he gets through the intro and throws the readers into the story, and then it's a fast paced journey until the end. This book and a few others have mostly a brilliant storyline, but the language has become more about love and light and peace and belonging, and less a thrilling story you never want to end. I hope he will get back to how he used to write, which was a language full of descriptions but also thrills and fear. All the way through this book I could hear the violins in the background...not what I look for in a thriller/horror.

Great Book

Truly enjoyed listening to this book. First book I've read of Dean Koontz it became quite chilling in parts the book keep me listening and awake late in the night was unable to stop listening. Also to remind the human race to show. kindness towards our fellow man and all animals alike.
Narrator voice was good though he told the story a little bit fast for me at times I did at times get mixed up with people names and postions in the story and was unsure who was who. I will definitely be listening to more of Deen Koontz books.

Descendants of WATCHERS...

If you enjoyed WATCHERS then you should also like DEVOTED. If you’ve never read WATCHERS but love dogs and would like one who can communicate with you through actual words and thoughts as an equal intelligent being, then this is the book for you!

Kip is a descendant of the original experimental genetically altered dog. He belonged to Dorothy who got him as a puppy. Once she realized what a unique dog he was she began to teach him. Upon her death Kip takes off to save an autistic boy who is a genius.
After hacking into a murder for hire dark web site, his (Woody’s) snooping is discovered. Shortly after some very bad people would like to get their hands on him. Woody knows too much, like these are the people who murdered his father.
Edoardo Ballerini is the best! His narration is superb
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

haven't listened to Koontz in awhile because they can get bit dark. This book had a easy flow and didn't drag on. he took the time to develop his characters.

Just a rehash.

I guess I'm in the minority but I'm just... tired of the endless rehashing of the same characters and plot over and over again for no purpose. I mean, this is basically an extremely sentimental mashup of the Moonlight Bay series with Next Door to Heaven. There's really no connection to Watchers other than intelligent golden retrievers. You know what would have been great? An actual sequel to Watchers, or an actual new Moonlight Bay book. Because both of those had awesome stories and characters. This book had no story whatsoever... I was actually surprised when it wrapped up because I felt like all that had been done up to that point was to set up for the story to begin, but it never really did. The characters were bland rehashes of other, better, Koontz characters. I'm afraid this one has got to be returned.

Love the cover beautiful

Little scary for me but a good read.....was a little disappointed in how they handled the FOUR PROFESSIONAL killers. ...seriously that was totally not even realistic ..too fairytale for the story line. But other than that....good good book

So-So

This would have been better without the language. I’m a first time reader of a Koontz story, and wasn’t impressed with the language. It’s simply not necessary. The story line was lacking as well.

It would be of value to all customers if Audible could have a filter of some type available so their customers could know ahead of time if the story has language. If there already is, I’m unaware of it.

Wow! I Was Enthralled...

Dean Koontz has been my favorite Author since the 1990's. However I haven't read anything from him for a while but this book was amazing! Trixie would be proud (I read her newsletters).
I recommend this novel to all dog lovers...I plan to gift this to my daughter who has rescued 2 German Sheperds and an unidentifiable mutt named Tater.

Awesome!

This was the best book I have listened to for quite some time. I love Dean Koontz for incorporating golden retrievers into many of his stories. There were aspects for all readers in this book, horror, supernatural, suspense , love stories, sadness and great joy. Dean Koontz is by far my favorite author since the Odd Thomas series and he keeps getting even better. Please keep it up!

Dean Koontz classic

This one has all DK’s favorite ingredients. Evil lab and bad guys, characters embodying everything good about people, a special kid and enhanced extraordinary dogs. A joy to read.
