Summary

"Devils to me," a siren call that would bring every Tasmanian running to answer no matter what they were doing.

Repeated over and over by those answering the call, it would empty bars or a base or a city of Tasmanians, because no member of the elite unit would desert a brother in trouble, reinforcing their unofficial motto, Et Anima Una, Of One Mind.

Jolie is the only female in the elite all male Tasmanian special forces group and loving every crazy minute of it; well, except for being made a squad leader. A duty no Tasmanian would want since it means having to make life and death decisions that impact their brothers' lives.

But Jolie's true father's emphasis on Ready, in Ready, Aim, Fire, has proved beneficial on each of her previous assignments, earning her the call sign Fox and giving her a unique latitude on her assignments - a squad leader with no orders or direction. Because, while Jolie can be unpredictable, she never disappoints and always has her squad in the thick of the action.

As one Tasmanian commander commented, "that exemplifies Et Anima Una like nothing else could. Jolie walks off to only the space gods know with no orders or direction, and we think it's normal."

not for me

Book one was great, this one is very disappointing. Narrator is very good which is the only reason I could skip through the book

Action keeps coming

This follow up novel works well as the Ghost unit developed nicely. Narration is excellent and the different assignments mean that there’s more than one story happening through the course of the book.

Addictive!

I just couldn't put this down, once I started I was glued to it and didn't come up for air 'til I finished - which was far too soon! A fast paced, action packed read, that's fast becoming my new favourite series, I can't wait for the next one!

Great second book.

I have both books in audio and kindle and of course am looking forward to book three. This series of books puts a different perspective on Special Force Type soldiers. Mostly that these forces are useful in specific military situations and operations.
Again Emily Woo Zeller does a great job on narration. Bringing the characters to life and giving even more believability to the story.
So yes five stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.

Enthralling Story

Loved this series. Strong female character, great storyline, Have to say for a male author i have been really impressed with his writing of strong, believable main characters that you can't residt rooting for.

As I listened my husband, who usually doesn't like my books started asking questions, he was enjoying it too. We will have to listen again together.

Too fast to be seriously engaging

Not as good as the first book. The deployments deployments come at you in rapid fire and are very short. Just as you start to get involved and committed it is wrapped up. By the end of the book the post appointment antics where Jolie tells what happened become very common place and unengaging. Still a very well-written book as a whole but it just felt like a filler episode from a good show

Action Story That Lacks a Plot Line

Pros: Pretty good fight scenes and the main protagonist is a woman. A realistic assessment of how a woman will rarely be able to match a man's physical strength - so, she must depend on fighting skills that are not strength based.

Cons: Repetitive. If you remove the repetitive explains of several of the key points also mentioned/explained in the 1st book - the book would have only 4 hours or so. Seriously. The protagonist explaining the structure of the Tasmanians. The protagonist sitting down to "quiet mind or calm her fears" in the middle of a battle. The fear of leading and what that entails - but doing it anyway because of her father's training. The lack of development of the characters. Also, the absolute lack of a plot. This read as a series of encounters that did not lead anywhere. There was no overarching issue to solve or resolve.

Final Thoughts:

Would I read it again? Nope.

Could I recommend it? Only with a disclaimer of what is lacking.

What I buy it again? Nope.

Would I ask for refund? No - I was actually able to complete the book.

The narrator? The best thing about the book - but really needs to work on male voices - they all sound the same. However, she did make the book more interesting that it was.

Interesting story, but a bit over the place.

The story was sort of resolved by 2/3rds of the book. The last third seamed tacked on. Still interesting and a good time with all the characters. This one portrayed her "Mary Sue" to the point of being not credible. She is too perfect on this one.
