O'Brian's ability to capture the power of the sea and wind as the ships fly down the massive waves is breathtaking.

Really liked this. Such a convincing account of Georgian naval life, and brilliantly narrated. Very satisfying read.

Wonderfully satisfying.

A classic series of novels, and this one as gripping as any. These would be a great read, but the narration by Ric Jerrom is terrific making them all the more compelling. Recommended

Another excellent episode.

So much to praise! The rich cast of characters; the multiple and expertly managed storylines - some of which will resonate for several books to come; the thrills and dramas of the voyage; Stephen’s deadly and delicate intelligence work... and Babbington’s Newfoundland dog. Wonderful stuff!

Rich, multi-layered, action-packed..

A good narration of a tale somewhat ponderous in places. For action my preference lies with Hornblower, but never the less a good tale well told.

Author and narrator at the peak of their powers
