About this listen

From award-winning comedian and writer Katy Wix comes Delicacy - a different kind of memoir from an astonishing new voice.

Twenty-one snapshots of a life - some staccato, raw and shocking, some expansive, meditative and profound, underpinned with moments of startling humour that shatter the darkness - all beginning with a single memory. A memory of cake.

The sickly royal icing marked the moment Katy found her voice. The madeira cake was the sun her group therapy sessions orbited. The 'missing cake' from a lost holiday has never let go. The Bara brith eaten in hospital after a life-altering car crash was as tough as the metal that hit her. The supermarket rock cake was where she 'practised wanting'.

Shocking, raw, darkly funny and deeply humane, Katy Wix's exploration of trauma, grief, addiction, love, loss, memory and hope is truly unforgettable.

Yes I woke up at 3 am just to listen to this fantastic audiobook. I have always loved Katy so when I saw she had written a book I pre-ordered it straight away along with the audiobook. I truly was not disappointed this is a really honest and heartfelt book I’m currently grieving someone that I personally feel like I have to grieve in secret. this book has really helped me it has however made go out today and buy loads of cake.
Thank you Katy xx

Loved this book so much!!!

I love Katy Wix as an actress so was excited to see she had published a book. This is a no holds barred memoir of trauma and grief and I could empathise with a lot of what she shared. If you are expecting it to be funny or comedic it isn’t (did Simon Amstel -quoted on the font cover-read a completely different book to me??) Katy writes about many horrific life experiences (some of which happened back to back) and I found myself very moved by a lot of what she wrote. Grief, trauma and loss are some of the few things that unite us as people. I also associated with her thoughts on food and the toxic diet culture that is all around us. Thank you Katy for helping me feel that I’m not alone in my journey.

Fantastically written and really honest

A stunning read/listen
I’ve been waiting for this, since Katy said she’d finished writing it last year. A creative and at times funny way to tell a heartbreaking story of love, grief and mental health. Bryony Gordon has had 3 or 4 attempts at this, a perfect book by an amazing woman
Thanks Katy

Huge thanks to an open heart. So appreciate the honesty and love that permeates. And loved the thread of cakes.

Really well read and comforting.

Huge thanks

Funny, but mostly moving and painful. Touched many nerves with me, a woman of the same generation. Highly recommended.

Remarkable
