Summary

They’ll either find salvation or face damnation.

Screams of agony. Cries of terror. The sounds of a dying civilization echo all around Josh Standing as he navigates the aftermath of this new post-apocalyptic world. All traces of modern advancements have been wiped away by the supernova EMP when he washes ashore on the Georgia coast. Alone.

And when a psychotic gang takes Josh prisoner, he’s torn between grief and gratitude that his daughter isn’t discovered nearby. Josh swore long ago to serve and protect, and he desperately wants to help the other prisoners, but his daughter needs him, too. If she’s still alive.

Circumstances are only slightly better for Josh’s wife Maxine and their cancer-stricken son as they settle at the family farm in West Virginia. There, they discover Maxine’s beloved mother has been heavily effected with the aftereffects of the supernova, and her battle-hardened father is struggling to keep the family together. Even worse, a local militia is targeting the farm for its resources, which causes further dissension in the family over how to handle the attacks.

When the dust from the firefights settle, the choice between duty and family will be the difference in who is left standing. Prepper survivalist author Grace Hamilton invites you to step into a post-apocalyptic, EMP-ravaged world filled with strong, resourceful characters, survivalist knowledge, and edge-of-your seat action.

Note: This novel contains violence.

Quick draw, fast paced and a hella of a journey.

I received this book via a promo code and this is my voluntary review.

I read Dark End as the ebook of this EMP-apocalypse scenario and have now decided to concentrate my journey through the rest of the series as audiobooks because Matt Weights narrative performance is as awesome as the world building.

If you enjoyed Jericho the TV show, you will LOVE this series.

The world has been screwed up by a supernova that wiped out all technology as we know it and has affected large portions of the population by turning them into violent crazies. The Standings are our family of protagonists in this post-apocalyptic scenario as they struggle to reconnect at Maxine's family farm. In this installment, Donald, Storm and Maxine deal with the threats to the farm from the new powers in Pictford, trying to hide her sick mother from Dale and his henchmen. Tally is travelling with fellow survivors Henry and Green, taking the risk out on the open roads trying to avoid Trace Parker and his minions while her father Josh, battles for his freedom and tries to do a little good for the kids Trace is holding hostage outside Savannah.

A medical crisis forces Maxine to seek help from an old enemy to steal a doctor to help her son and the discovery that Maria is still alive, puts Josh and his reunion with his kids in peril as Dale Craggen mounts his forces.

Ends on a cliff hanger, but I am still hooked to this series.

Action packed sequel

I enjoyed this book, it was non stop action with a gripping plot, and the characters are believable. I was on the edge of my seat, routing for MC Josh as he fought to keep his family together and get them to safety, but maxine irritated me as she seemed to be more concerned about her own personal drama than the reality of the situation around her, The narration was good, and I can't wait for the next book to find out what's next for Josh and his family.
