A split-second decision has life-changing consequences for Metropolitan Police firearms officer Jessica Raker when she fatally wounds the son of a notorious organized crime chief during a robbery in Greenwich - and discovers her husband has been having an affair.

With her career, her marriage and her life in danger, Jess is sent back to her home town of Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley to take up a sergeant role in Lancashire police.

But as she throws herself into dealing with a hostage situation up on Dead Man's Stake Farm and a body discovered in a reservoir on her first day, her enemies are plotting their revenge - and they're closer than she thinks . . .

This was in the “included” section which I find a bit variable - really liked the characters and a good story with much to develop in the next two books (which unfortunately aren’t on audible - hopefully they will be as I would definitely buy!). Good narrator who suited the book

Great story and good narration

Thoroughly enjoyed this listen. There was a feeling of realism about this story enhanced by the calm, no nonsense style of the narrator. As the story progressed I became completely involved in the main character’s life as she had major decisions to make affecting her marriage and children and of course career. Love a story which is so character driven and read by a talented narrator. This was a free read but will gladly use credits to continue the series.

Very enjoyable

A sad day I have listened to all of the recorded Nick Oldham books. That should say everything! I can’t recommend it enough for people who like accurate police stuff.
