The start of a totally gripping 1920s cosy murder mystery series
A fatal jump. A missing suffragette. An inexplicable murder.

London, 1920. Reporter Iris Woodmore lands a headline story when, for the first time, two women compete against each other in an election to become Britain’s next female MP.

But she’s forced to confront her past as the House of Commons is where her mother, Violet, died during a suffragette attack on Parliament in 1914.

Iris believed her mother died accidentally after falling into the River Thames – until a waterman tells her he witnessed what really happened. Violet Woodmore didn’t fall – she jumped.

Iris searches for the suffragette who was with her mother on that fateful day – only to find she disappeared from Crookham Hall six years earlier.

Desperate to know the truth behind that fatal jump, Iris discovers the ancestral home is hiding secrets and lies that inevitably lead to murder…

The first book in the Iris Woodmore cozy crime series. Perfect for fans of Verity Bright, Claire Gradidge and Emily Organ.

I really enjoyed this book. It had a smashing story and was thoughtfully written and performed.

An absorbing story with a great plot and well drawn and believable characters. The period setting and insight into the suffragette movements of the time really added to my enjoyment of the book. The narration was excellent, differentiating between characters consistently and building tension skilfully as the plot dictated.

Intriguing mystery with interesting historical context

Having been burned a few times with audio books that are included with membership, I wasn't expecting much so as not to be disappointed. Not much info to go on as only one other review. But...it was actually very good. It deals with the beginning of women's emancipation after having found themselves stripped of their freedoms they had during WW1 when the men folk returned often damaged and war torn. The narrator is also good, poor narration is a pet hate of mine as it ruins a book, no matter how well written. Hats off to those who do it well as it's not an easy skill. Anyway, if you need a free book as funds are tight, give it a go!

Fantastic for a freebie

A sympathetic main character, a twisting investigation into her mothers death, a high profile trial and great narration all lead to a satisfying audiobook.

An engrossing story

I enjoyed the story and was impressed with the standard, given that it was included in my membership as some of the included books are dreadful!! The narration was irritating at times, in particular the pronunciation of the name Moffat. It was as an American might pronounce it. I would definitely listen to others in the series but only if included in membership.

Enjoyable
