The storyline was thoroughly engaging throughout and the narration was perfectly matched. If you enjoy crime set in this period then I recommend this book without hesitation.

Drama, but not impossible or over done. Realistic characters with depth and flaws. A multitude of possible directions for the tale to go. A definite Keeper for me.

lovely book to have on while traveling, especially if traveling through the countryside, the story could almost take you back in time.

This had some interesting plot lines, even if they did end up being red herrings! I’d love to have seen the theme of unhappy servants and the risk of threat from within taken further but in general the story was pretty satisfying. None of the major characters felt totally formed or captivating but I’ll give the second in the series a go.
