Summary

Marley Clark, a retired military intelligence officer, works security for a Sea Island community simply to keep busy. A single night patrol transforms the feisty widow's yawner of a job into a deadly battle of wits when she finds an islander drowned and bobbing naked amid a potpourri of veggies in a Jacuzzi.

Asked to serve as the lead investigator's liaison, the 52-year-old heroine is startled to discover she's become Deputy Braden Mann's target as well-for romance. Yet their steamy attraction doesn't deter the pair from sorting through a viper's nest of suspects as the body count grows and the pun-loving killer plans a grizzly epitaph for Marley.

DEAR KILLER is the first in a series of Marley Clark adventures that combine heart-pounding suspense with generous sides of romance and humor.

Great murder, mystery.

Would you listen to Dear Killer again? Why?

Set on a beautiful island off the South Carolina coast, DEAR KILLER is the first book in the Marley Clark detective series by author Linda Lovely.

Marley Clark, the heroine is 52, a mature and capable woman who is retired ex-military, and a security guard on Dear Island.

When, one night on a routine patrol, she finds a local man naked, and dead in a hot tub surrounded by vegetables, no one can understand what the motive could be. However, from that moment on, a chain of events are set in place which make this audiobook a compelling and exciting mystery.

When she is assigned as lead investigator’s liaison Marley finds herself embroiled in a steamy romance with a younger man, Braden, who is attached to the Sheriff’s office, but will their mutual attraction survive?

This story is fast paced and entertaining, with a variety of characters which are complimented by the excellent narration of K. C. Kowan.

Solid page turner

Where does Dear Killer rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Solid mystery and suspenseful. Marley was well developed, as an audacious and intrepid detective, which seemed credible since she was a former military colonel. She was forever resourceful in unconventional ways.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Constant plot twists and murders. Marley was always on the brink of calamity and that coupled with a steady string of murders kept the pace moving.

What about K. C. Cowan’s performance did you like?

Excellent narration, masterful with gender voice changes and accents.

Any additional comments?

Welcome to have the woman as always the rescuer, but it made Braden a bit inept, especially at the end. He might have been a bit more skillful at helping Marley out.

A Nice Cozy Mystery

A nice mystery. For people who like cozy mysteries, this should prove to be an enjoyable listen. If you're into more gory stuff, this one is likely to miss the mark.

Fast, exciting story!

What did you like about this audiobook?

This is a good story with a lot of action and twists. The author's vivid language and descriptions make the lowcountry setting easy to picture, so it works well as an audio book. Marley Clark is a strong female protagonist, and the narrator's voice suits her. Cowan does the characters well and makes it easy to distinguish the characters. I enjoyed listening to this book.

Okay

This book deserves three and a half stars. It had a well developed plot and interesting characters. I thought the book lasted longer than necessary and the pacing was a bit slow. Plus there was too much made out of the age difference between the two leading characters. If it's that much of a problem change the ages, don't keep harping on it.
