Summary

Ali Wong's heartfelt and hilarious letters to her daughters cover everything they need to know in life, like the unpleasant details of dating, how to be a working mum in a male-dominated profession and how she trapped their dad.

In her hit Netflix comedy special Baby Cobra, Wong told the world her remarkably unfiltered thoughts on marriage, sex, Asian culture, working women and why you never see new mum comics onstage but you sure see plenty of new dads.

The sharp insights and humour are even more personal in this completely original collection. She shares the wisdom she's learned from a life in comedy and reveals stories from her life offstage, including the brutal single life in New York (i.e., the inevitable confrontation with erectile dysfunction), reconnecting with her roots (and drinking snake blood) in Vietnam, tales of being a wild child growing up in San Francisco and parenting war stories. Ali Wong's letters are absurdly funny, surprisingly moving and enlightening (and gross) for all.

Ten stars!

Much like her stand up shows, this book is honest and funny. I like that she talks really loud as she narrates and emphasizes some points exactly as if she was on stage. the afterward by Justin was also really nice. I will most likely read this many more times!

Dear Girls by Ali Wong

Absolutely loved this book and the fact that Ali Wong was the one narrating it! Although some stories from her experience weren’t relatable, I was still able to laugh and learn from them. Hilarious yet sapiential, perhaps one of the books I’ve ever read and listened to. I truly recommend this book to anyone who wants some comedy in their life!

Uplifting and easy listening

I am a fan of Ali Wong, but even if you have no idea who she is her honesty and no hold back approach to her stories and journey in life will leave you feeling so full. Must listen.

Beautiful, empowering, eye opening and hilarious

Ali Wong was at her brash, bawdy, and unapologetic finest in this book. I love her comedy and was excited to learn more about the woman off the stage - I was not disappointed! I loved the openness she offered about her experiences, the hilarity of her anecdotes and just the all around honesty.

I'm not big into memoirs and the like, but this one was excellent.

One last thing, I've read a few reviews that didn't like the final chapter where her husband Justin offers his perspective, but I found it refreshing and interesting to see the story from the other side. To me it was less of a justification as to why he chose to support her career over his own, and more about trying to address the stigma that exists around men supporting powerful women... and that is something that definitely needs addressing more.

My very first audiobook experience

I’m glad it was this one. Funny, heartwarming, truthful, feminist. It was a delight to spend time with Ali. I feel inspired as a part Asian mum and as a creative.

Funny but repetitive

I love Ali Wong. She’s a great performer and story teller but I felt like the content was a little too repetitive.

Funny AF

I only know Ali from her movie, Always be my maybe (sadly), which I loved because it was effortlessly funny.

Only recently I watched her stand up and decided to give her audiobook a go.

Man o man was that a good decision.

From an occasional hard hitting life advise to extremely detailed and gory description of child birth, the book will leave you with fits of laughter.

Her struggle of being a working mother and her husband's selfless readiness to sacrifice his work to take care of their children is heartwarming.

Strongly recommend!
