About this listen

It’s midsummer in Penbartha and the opening night for eco-architect Olivia Wells’ latest project - a Georgian coastal eco-boutique hotel with fascinating links to the famous plant-hunters of Cornwall.

Jago Trevithick KC has been busy in London with the complicated and lengthy trial of an underworld criminal. After a disastrous result, he returns to Penbartha to be with Olivia, seeking refuge and peace and to reassess his life choices. The morning after the long-awaited and eventful launch party Jago and Olivia discover a dead body and he immediately fears that his troubles in London have followed him home.

As their professional lives collide, will Olivia and Jago be able to work together again to uncover the dark forces that are threatening the success of her latest venture, or are Jago’s troubles more personal than he thought?

This is the second of Jane McParkes books I’ve listened to and I can’t wait for the next one! I enjoyed the story but I feel invested in the characters now. I especially like their values and the development of their relationships with each other. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Love these characters

I love these books and the character building is wonderful. You feel for the characters, it's beautiful settings and the way Cornwall is described gives you such a comfortable/cosy feeling. I really enjoyed the narration paired with the physical copy for a more immersive read. as someone who doesn't normally read murder mysteries I absolutely fell in love with the first book & I enjoyed this sequel very much. I just wanted a few more chapters towards the end. some of the character developments didn't go where I thought it would although some did have very sweet story lines. The first book was a five-star for me! and the second book I'd say is a very comfortable 4 star. very much looking forward to any more books from this author.

The characters are wonderful!

I enjoyed the story and it was easy to listen to and for that reason alone I don't want to put off other people from reading it. However for me it was so similar to the previous book and seemed too ridiculous a coincidence to believe. I do love books that are in a series revealing more about its characters but the similarities just downgraded the stars eating for me. I don't want to reveal too much of the storyline as it could spoil it for others.

An echo from the previous book
