Not bedtime listening but....
This is a really good book, the storyline is fast paced and keeps you rivetted to your seat, apart from when the gosts make you jump a bit! Not bedtime listening but superb any other time. Highly recommended. This is the first book I've heard narrated by Howard J. Davey and I think he is superb, sounds interested in what he is reading and really adds atmosphere to the narrative impo. It was okay,
The story itself may have been interesting but the awful phrasing of the narrator was so distracting that I felt like I concentrated more on the performance than on the actual book. I think my review would change for the better had I read a print version. Having read the other reviews of the book I'm minded to think that's it's just me. Anyway, read it, please do.

I just finished this book and man is it awesome!
I read this book, because I read another book by this author that was about a haunted village and it was so awesome. Well let me just say that book is awesome this book is off the charts excellent. This is not your typical haunted house. It is a serious telling a ghost drug dealings and murders and a crazy man who had nothing to do with any of it. If you love Haunted house stories get this book, but be aware this is unlike any haunted house story you’ve ever read. The end is unpredictable and also very awesome. I can’t say enough about this book. What I will say though is I hope this Author does another book about hauntings and gets Howard Davey too now right. He read the book as if he was telling me about his nightmare stay at his friends Island retreat. I just love this book and it is so worth the credit you’re really should get it if you love him with things. Edit it’s like a real person being haunted, not Hollywood style realistic style. LOL! This book is so freaking awesome!

Not a restful island break
Alex Preston is invited to spend a few days on a private island owned by an old college friend. The next day he finds that his friend has gone away on business leaving Alex stranded. The couple (original caretakers) have gone missing. Two men turn up thinking Alex was Lawrence his old friend. They have guns and mean business. These men are not the only ones Alex has to contend with, there are ghosts and dead bodies. Will Alex become one of the ghostly residence or will he manage to get off the island? Gothic ghost story
This story reminded me of the gothic tales I used to read years ago, except the MC was a young man instead of a woman. Alex Preston is invited to spend time on a private island recently purchased by his friend, Lawrence. Soon, Alex starts feeling like portraits are watching him, a creepy cherub in his room is watching him, and ghosts abound. It doesn't help that the couple who act as servants could have come out of the Addams family. Alex learns that the former owner committed suicide in the house, possibly after killing his family. After Lawrence disappears from the island, Alex isn't sure if he will ever be able to leave the island or if he is doomed to die there. This was an enjoyable ghostly tale, but I enjoyed the unique twist that the author put into it. Well-written with just enough creepy moments to keep the reader's interest. The narrator was perfect and his performance added a lot to the book. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author and chose to review it.

Crime thriller meets ghost story
I was surprised to find that this wasn't only a ghost story. The crime aspect fit in quite well. I shudder at the thought of finding myself in the situation that presented itself in the book. Although short this was an enjoyable read. The narrator was a great fit for the story.

This was an entertaining enough story. I thought there would be a plot twist but there isn't. The characters were ok, the setting was interesting. The writing was fine. I would probably read or listen to more from this author. I listened to this one. Howard J. Davey narrates it. He did a good job. I requested this audio book in exchange for a honest review.
