Summary

Sookie has a murder investigation on her hands. A young girl has died at a vampire party - and it looks as though her lover, Eric, might be responsible. Eric swears he didn't do it, the police don't believe him, and even Sookie isn't so sure. Nor is she inclined to take his word for it, not having caught him enjoying the victim's blood minutes before she was killed.

But something strange is going on. Why had Sookie been asked to come to the fateful party a few minutes early - just to catch Eric in the act? And why had the victim spiked her blood before approaching Eric? Was it simply because she wanted to be irresistible, or was it something more sinister?

Sookie will have to find out... but it's the worst moment to investigate, as her Fae family are having troubles of their own and Sookie is, inevitably, drawn in. And there is one last complication. The cluviel dor her grandmother left her. It will grant her one wish, which could fulfil Sookie's heart's desire. The only problem is, she still doesn't know what - or who - her heart truly desires...

Loving the Sookie series and this one is a cracker! I really hope it continues in the future after the next book which I fear may be the last in this series but will look at the authors other books. The Midnight Texas series was fantastic too.

Fab

I enjoyed this so much. I don’t want to give any spoilers but you won’t be disappointed.

The most important thing you have to remember when reading a Sookie Stackhouse book is that it isn't True Blood. The two should be regarded as different stories with the same characters.
I personally think Harris managed to bring this twelfth book in the series, back home to roost again. She has linked into her characters as they were in the beginning, as opposed to what they are in the TV series. Which means this book has a laid back and comfortable quality to it.
It wasn't until I had finished the book that I realised there was no naughty scenes at all, which also means the story didn't need them. I missed Pam and her witty remarks and Eric played the understudy this time. I also thought there were far too many scenes that had Sookie shopping, painting her nails and having a shower.

Harris seems to have tired of the set of characters and appears eager to bring the story to a conclusion. Going by the last scene I do hope it won't be 'a happy ever after Bon Temp waitress gets mediocre life' one.
I bought the Audio version of this book and as always the narrator Johanna Parker is brilliant. She has Sookie down to a fine art, which makes listening even more of a delight.

Would you listen to Deadlocked again? Why?

Not straight away, but I'm sure I'll listen to again at some point. The book is good on the whole, though I did have the odd issue with the some aspect of the plot.

Would you recommend Deadlocked to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes I would. Has romance, sex, action and mystery and is generally a good listen, especially given that the narrator is very good.

Have you listened to any of Johanna Parker’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I've only listened to her in this series, but she is very good. She clearly either makes notes on the reading or is very good at reading ahead given that she gets the tone just right for most of the dialogue. Good distinction with all of the characters as well, and she even does justice to the points of humour as well.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh - yes. However I found my largest emotion at the end of the book was irritation and why I marked it at 3 stars. I've explained why in additional comments. The book was good, but when I put a book down with that as my overriding feeling I can't rate it too well.

Any additional comments?

My main issue with the book was the plot around Sookie and Eric. Without ruining the plot I'll try and explain. Basically Eric is being forced into a situation by a debt of honour AND a legal contract. Sookie has the perfect means to stop this at any time but doesn't because she thinks Eric should just get out of it himself to prove he loves her. I just found this really irritating. She knows he is honour bound and legally bound, and could likely cause him, Pam, and Sookie to die by refusing. And she thinks he is too proud and arrogant! He has no leg to stand on really and she could stop the whole thing at any point. Found this too stupid and I found myself being irritated by her whining on about it by the end of the book.

Not the best of the series, but still good.
