The first biblical book of Samuel depicts David, a shepherd and youngest son of Jesse. He rises to fame as a musician and by killing the giant Goliath. He later becomes a favorite of King Saul and a close friend of his son, Jonathan. Worried that David is trying to claim his throne, Saul turns on David but is later killed in battle.
