Summary

A dead body.

A missing daughter.

A silver blade.

All the clues point to one person: Me.

My name is Evangeline, and I’m a retired assassin who wants nothing to do with the underworld. But an edict from a Demonic Lord forces me to return to the man and the life I left behind.

I have seven days to prove my innocence.

Whoever set me up is going to die.

“Xai…”

His fingers knotted in my ponytail as he yanked my head back to the angle he preferred.

Oh, I knew that look. Nothing good ever came from that look.

I flattened my palms against his bare chest, but he pushed right through my physical barrier and took my mouth with a ferocity that screamed possession. His tongue demanded entrance, and when I tried to fight him, he bit my lip hard enough to bleed. On my gasp, he entered and unleashed his desire in a kiss that deprived me of oxygen.

My knees threatened to buckle under his assault. He took my mouth the way he did my body, reminding me who we were to each other with a few bold strokes. I melted for him, as I always did.

God, I missed this.

I missed him.

I hated it. Loved it. Craved it...."

Daughter of Death is a standalone paranormal romance with dark elements, demons, angels, a sadistic alpha male, blood, and a lot of dead bodies. What can I say? Eve likes her knives, and Xai enjoys watching her play.

Escapism to another realm

Oh I love Lexi’s books. Escapism to another realm This one throws you right into the mix of Heaven and Hell. With Angles and Demons, Archangels and Archdemon’s this one is a rollercoaster.

Eve and Xia’s story is an interesting one. Never knowing what is going to happen with them next, never quite trusting Xia. Plenty of twists and turns along the way.

Loved this so much.

I’ve had this in my library for over 6 months I have no idea why I waited so long to listen.

Evangeline is a retired assassin who wants nothing else to do with the underworld but a messenger from a Demonic Lord forces her to return to the man and life she wants to forget.
She arrives to find a silver knife covered in the blood of the demonic lords daughter that Eve has been framed of killing.
She is given 7 days to prove her innocence or face being dragged to hell and to top that she has to go with Xai the last person she wants to be with.
Xai has tried to hide his feelings for Eve for centuries even though he knows he loves her he tells himself if he acts like that he’s protecting her but neither can deny their sexual tensions towards each other.
On their search for those who tried to frame her they run into a operation bringing demons onto earth and they set to find out what and why this is connected to Eve being framed .
Eve and Xai can deny their feelings for each other all they want but you can just feel the tension and when they give in to each other it’s explosive although Xai still ends up hurting Eve again but he expects her to read between the lines and understand his motives.
Sarah Puckett is excellent as usual and Tristan Hunt did a great job as well.

Great listen

This was such a good listen, it was a refreshing romance, you will understand when you listen, it's also got funny bits in it, and I liked the fact it was a stand alone. The male narrator only reads 2 chapters, but it was so nice to hear the males perspective, the narrators did a great job and read beautifully, I would recommend this book. audiobook obsessions reviewer 🎧

mbv.l

The book is mainly from Eve's POV: right from the start she's intelligent, resourceful and clearly makes things happen in her own life. She's not scared of her demon boss, doesn't cower in a corner when she's accused of murder (not a spoiler: it happens at the beginning of the book). I loved the 'role play' bit she did by the pool - it was absolutely hillarious, and also very relatable in terms of her being underestimated.

The conflict was brilliant both outsie of the romance and within: I genuinely had no idea how the hell the author was going to reconcile what Xai had done in order to get to a happy ending. No. Idea. It was fast paced and action packed

I absolutely loved the male narrator too: he sounded like a villan, which was perfect!

Everything You Could Want from a PNR

I am very pleased with the world building and the establishment of relationships that the author has shown us thus far in this first book. I love the tension and attraction between the main characters, everything has been downright sizzling. The author does a great job giving us plenty of detail and drawing us into this world, making this everything I could possibly want in a paranormal romance.

Loved Sarah Puckett's narration. She does an amazing job with this performance, as per her usual. Her narration makes us love the story and characters that much more. This is why she is one of my favorites! We don't really hear much from Tristan Hunt, but the tiny bit we do hear is pleasant.

Bring on book 2

I really adore Sarah Puckett’s narration, I have listened to a lot read by her and she always draws me into the story very quickly. Tristan Hunt was a nice addition telling the part of Xai.
Eve is a retired assassin and a fallen angel, she works in a bar and Xai another fallen angel arrives telling her shes wanted elsewhere. Accused of a murder she didn't commit she has a week to clear her name, and Xai is given the job in accompanying her. Can she clear her name?
Eve and Xai were great characters and the chemistry between the pair was immense, you could feel it oozing as you are listening.

Great story!

I really looked this story. The intricate details were woven together perfectly.
The two angels’ chemistry was palpable throughout, and had me eager to keep listening.
It was quite long, though, but worth it.

On the edge

This audiobook had you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story. The characters were great and memorable. Could really feel the angst and pull between the H/h. This story was very unpredictable, which made it so enthralling. I am a huge fan of the narrator, Sarah Puckett. As for the male narrator, Tristan Hunt, I loved his voice but could have listened to it a lot more than the little it appeared in the story. Look forward to more from all involved.

Indecisive Heroine

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

I enjoy books in this genre and thought I would really enjoy an urban fantasy story with a strong heroine at the helm. Well, that's not quite what this is. I grew tired and even irritated at the amount of times I had to listen to her inner monologue discussing her relationship with Xai. It was constant - she loved him; she hated him; he walked all over her; she deserved his poor treatment; okay, let's have sex; can I trust you? and repeat. At times their relationship seemed to be on the verge of being abusive, yet she still came back - every time. This indecisive behavior for a strong heroine and her inability to set some boundaries quickly grew very tiresome [or at the very least stand up for herself or demand some answers from him]. And part of the problem for me was that I really didn't like Xai either.

The narrator, Sarah Puckett, carried most of the water for this narration and she did a great job. She did various voices for the characters and narrated at a good pace. I have to confess that after listening to Sarah's narration for an hour or two to suddenly hear a male narrator [Tristan Hunt] was a bit jolting. I cannot disparage his narration - as he did a good job - but nonetheless, both times I heard him start narrating, it put me off the story a bit as I had gotten used to listening to a female voice [Sarah Puckett].

To die for

Lexi has done it again. She has changed my mind on not being into “winged paranormals.” I love the assassin element to this novel. I just love action and suspense in general. This duo completely did it for me because maybe deep down I have a repressed sparring fantasy. I blame one too many karate lessons, Jean Claude movies, Patricia Briggs, Chloe Neill, Jeaniene Frost, Danika Dark, and of course Lexi Foss’ novels for that one. I love love love this heroine. She does not live in a world where she’s told that she’s too weak because she’s a female. No, folks...this woman has a legacy and it’s completely bad you know what. Give this girl her silver knives and watch her work. I also love a self sacrificing male because please...those only exist in Lexi’s realms...right?

Mixed feelings

So I really wanted to like this book, I love this author and everything she has ever written, but I just couldn’t get into this one for some reason. The MC is so weak when she’s supposed to be this badass assassin, but when it comes to Xai, she bows every time and I just couldn’t get behind that. The story itself wasn’t bad, Eve is accused of murder and Xai and her have to figure out who the real culprit is. I’m more for romance than solving a crime, which is why I didn’t enjoy as much. The narration is amazing by Sarah Puckett, she always does a fantastic job.

Angels and Demons have never been so HOT!

Lexi Foss creates worlds like no other...and this is just another fine example! The story is intriguing and I'm looking forward to book 2!
I will admit to my mind wandering during a few parts, but I think that's bc I was annoyed by how the main heroin was ALWAYS kept in the dark but expected to kick ass and just trust everything around her over and over an over.

Paranormal Fifty Shades - Don’t bother

Not a fan of Sarah’s syrupy narration. Not a fan of the characters. Not a fan of this Paranormal Erotica that should not be considered as Paranormal Romance.

Loved it!!

Really enjoyed this one! It had great balance of plot, development of characters, romance/ eroticism that kept me hooked from start to finish, wow! Well done Ms. Foss. Looking forward to the next and more from you. I highly recommend this book.

My only critique would be the narration. Firstly, I don't understand the need for two narrator's when you only get the male at the end. I would have loved Mr. Hunt tohave done the actual male voices as he was fantastic! Secondly, Sarah Puckett is one I'm familiar with and I don't usually mind but my main issue with her style is that she doesn't bring the character's to life. There are times when sarcasm, humor, anger etc should be portrayed yet her intonation never changes. She also is more on the slowly drawn out side and has a much emphasized breathiness to her speech that drives me insane. I had to pump this up to 1.20x speed in order to improve her narration.

WOW...It's just amazing

This story is about Evangeline and Xai who are both fallen angels. I won't say who they are related to or what their powers are because it is too much of a spoiler! Their pasts and futures are intertwined and have been since before the fall. Evangeline is a retired assassin who is pulled back into the demon world after being set up for the murder of a demon lord. Now it is up to Evangeline and Xai to exonerate Evangeline's good name, but things are not as it seems and very soon they are caught up in a mystery bigger than they could have imagined.
I started this book with both caution and hope... this story exceed both! I absolutely loved this story and I cannot wait to listen to the rest of the series! The writing is fun, the characters are dynamic, and the twists and turns are exciting and expected.
Additionally... Sarah Puckett and Tristan Hunt are amazing! Sarah Puckett is a favorite of mine, but she really kills this story. I could not stop listening!
