Story
Marry a man I barely know to save my family from ruin. It might’ve been simple, if my betrothed were anybody else. On our wedding day, my husband-to-be arrived at the courthouse like a black cloud rolling over Manhattan. Walt didn’t crack smiles or pepper in pleasantries as we exchanged hollow vows in front of the judge. His disdain for me was so palpable I assumed we’d walk out of that ceremony and resume our regularly scheduled programming. But then fate was like, Hold my beer. I got this.

Kat and Yasmine! Do not dally! Come straight home after work. Kat, don’t take the long route from the subway station just so you can pass by Cute Hot Dog Guy. This is important! I’ve had the best day. You won’t believe it. There I was in my preschool classroom, washing a bit of poo out of some soggy trousers, when this absolute babe came to collect his nephew from my class. Truthfully, I thought I’d blacked out for a moment when I first saw him. He was a proper hunk with glorious brown hair, quite tall, and he had these arms. Are muscly arms supposed to turn me on?

Story
I've spent eight years wishing I'd fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains - every time it's the same wish: Forget about Derek. But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline. It's infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I'm around him, the better. Avoidance is key.

Ian is...just my best friend. We're extremely close, stuck so deep inside a Jim-and-Pam-style friendzone everyone at work assumes we're a couple - that is until one day, word spreads through the teacher's lounge that he's single. Fair game. Suddenly, it's open season on Ian. He should be reveling in all the newfound attention, but to our mutual surprise, the only attention he seems to want is mine. He's turning our formerly innocent nightly chats into X-rated phone calls. Our playful banter sports a new, dangerous edge.

Nicholas Hunt is the man I hate. For good reason. His opinion of me is tainted by prejudice even before my arrival at his grandmother’s estate, and my first impression of him is just as abysmal. His arrogance and icy demeanor make it clear that he’s the type of man who’s best handled at a distance. Fortunately, space shouldn’t be an issue inside this Gilded Age mansion and its lush gardens. If I stick with the servants and he keeps to his sailboat, we should hardly cross paths at all. Unfortunately, at Rosethorn, I find that all roads eventually lead to Nicholas Hunt.

Waking up to a text asking why you stood up your blind date is not the best way to start the day, especially when the man in question is standing half-dressed in your kitchen. Maybe Dakota Newton shouldn’t have assumed the gorgeous man with a devastating smile standing outside the coffee shop was her date. She probably - okay, she definitely shouldn’t have slept with him, regardless of how hot the chemistry between them was. But how could she have known Mr. Right was actually Mr. Wrong?

The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city. Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time. Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was.

I’m desperate and destitute when Lockwood Construction rolls into my small town with an offer too good to pass up: high wages to any able-bodied man willing to join their crew. Say no more. I throw on baggy clothes, tuck my long hair under a baseball hat, and apply for a job. Unfortunately, my half-baked idea of disguising myself as a guy is flawed from the beginning. Finding a good roommate through a classified ad isn’t as easy as it sounds. I was starting to lose hope. Until a knock at my door came, and God answered my prayers. Except...uh...wrong prayer, God. I’d definitely requested the big guy find me a drop-dead gorgeous man on more than one occasion...just not as my roommate. Declan Tate talked me into interviewing him anyway. While he was amusing and charismatic, I wouldn’t have been comfortable living with a man, so I regretfully declined. Then, cupcakes showed up at my door.

He's a billionaire heir. A grump supreme. Hater of people. Bigger hater of peopling with people. And my new fake boyfriend. "Emotionally unavailable" doesn’t even begin to describe Hayes Rutherford. He has more defenses than a nuclear missile silo. And he’s the ultimate catch of the century. At least, according to his bank statement. Summary
I’m good at hiding my feelings.
Having to pretend I’m not in love with my best friend?
Pfft. That’s child’s play.
Here’s how I do it: I avert my eyes when he walks out of his room, shirtless in all his toned glory. I squash the butterflies that fill my stomach every time he slowly unfurls a dimpled smile. And, most importantly, I keep an arsenal of “personal massagers” in my bedside drawer. Wink.
Not to brag, but Aiden Smith isn’t hard to resist if you’ve been doing it for as long as I have. In fact, we might have continued as best friends forever if not for the fact that I needed him to play the part of my fake boyfriend.
Date me like you mean it, I told him. Nudge nudge. C’mon, just go along with a little lie, help a girl out, and then we can all return to life as we know it.
Except he veered from the plan.
He crossed the line.
Flirting with me when no one else was around? Pinning me down and kissing me like that? Okay, how exactly is taking off my bra part of the ruse, Aiden?!
I’d ask him about it if I could, but well...things got ugly and we’re not best friends anymore.
In fact, we’re the exact opposite.
Now, I have to play nice even though I want to crush his heart in the palm of my hand.
Pretending not to love Aiden was the easy part.
Pretending not to hate him?
Well...I might need a little more practice.

Story: Two best friends who are also brother and sister in law (heroine sister is married to hero’s brother) are roommates. The heroine has had feelings for the hero since meeting him at the sisters wedding, but neither of them have acted on it....until now. I’m a sucker for friends to lovers and with Teddy Hamilton as one of the narrators, this was an auto click for me. Sad to say though, I didn’t finish this.
Luci is new to me as a narrator and while her voice is pleasant for both male and female, her inflections were off and it became distracting. It felt like she was reading, not performing -if that makes sense-. I couldn’t really get a feel of the characters through her, and for someone like me who likes to imagine the scenes and feel each emotion through the presentation of the narrators, this became a problem 60 mins in......I guess I’ve been spoiled by females such as Andi Arndt and Erin Mallon who excels not only in bringing out that raw emotion when they narrate, but bringing the characters to life with it.
Also, for all the Teddy Hamilton fans such as myself, he doesn’t appear until the second half of the book and even then his part is extremely limited. I didn’t get to his part, I just know based on how the chapters are laid out. Part 1 of the book is all Luci and the heroine...what’s her name (yes, I can’t even remember her name 5 mins after calling it quits to write this review LOL). Part 2 is both Luci and her heroine, and Teddy and the hero. Teddy narrates maybe 1/3 (I’m being generous) of the second part of the book. Side note: I hope he’s not getting so popular he only take roles in a limited capacity, because that would be sad, he’s too great a narrator, but I digress. Anyway, as I was saying, this book has 24 total chapters and an epilogue, of these chapters, Teddy narrated 6 short chapters, yes only 6! That’s one of the biggest reasons I decided to return this audio and purchase this to read instead. I like the story, just can’t get pass Luci’s narration without Teddy’s to provide a balance.
P.S. I just looked up Luci Christian thinking she was new, she’s been doing this at least since 2012. I find it sad that with so many years in the business she hasn’t gotten better as a narrator. Looking back on some of the great narrators that I know (Andi Arndt and Erin Mallon...my female faves) you see the growth in their art, Luci hasn’t improved from what I can tell. Maybe it’s time for her to do some voice lessons and focus on her inflections...it goes a long way in telling a story and keeping the audience engaged. If she can lock that down then she would be perfect. Her voice is sweet, and she can be funny and fun (there were peeks of it in the hour I listened to her), but her inflections kills her narration. If you can ignore narrators and focus on the story, then yes, it’s worth a credit. If you are like me, living/experiencing the story through narration, then save your credit, not worth it.

Good start but turns sour
I enjoyed the first part of the book when things were fun and light. But the latter part of the story becomes very explicit. Which I could let pass but the story becomes annoying when the characters seem to have no intelligence how to manage their life. If anything, this is a story about letting infatuation attraction over-rule brains. As the story goes on it ceases to be romantic or funny. It is miserable.

Enjoyment
I read many reviews before going ahead with the down load of this book. I have to say, after listening, I just don’t understand the negative comments. I thought the narration was great. I liked both Maddy and Aiden. The story moved right along and I didn’t find any of it boring. If you are considering whether or not to take a chance, take the chance! I think some people are programmed to find the glass half empty! I really enjoyed this book and I’m glad it’s in my library so I can listen again and again.

Not R. S. Grey best
I enjoy R. S. Grey, listen to most of her books.
This one the main character Maddie wasn't likable at all. Most of the book was her winning. Unfortunately Aiden didn't appear until half threw the book. He was the likable character. Not worth the credit. R. S. Grey is a much better author than this book.

The story was pretty cute.
I did like the story overall. I also understand how someone might be too nervous to tell a good friend about feelings they may have for them. However.... she was kind of annoying. She has these strong feelings, therefore I didn’t understand why she kept trying to push him away. She did that before he moved and when he was gone she really went too far. You honestly can’t just push a best friend away like that with no explanation.... regardless of what she might be feeling. And the completely pointless attitude that was given to him after they saw each other again after a year (which was her fault completely why it was even that long of a time frame) was just ridiculous and childish. She can’t be mad that he left her to take his dream job if she hadn’t communicated her feelings for him. She promised that she would let him know if she had any feelings for him. Is he suppose to be wrong for trusting and believing what his “best friend” told him?? There were a number of times that he did try to let her know how he felt, but she tried to ignore, disregard, run and hide.

I really liked the beginning of this book but it lost a lot of steam toward the mid point. I just wasn’t a huge fan of where the story went and it left me unsatisfied. By the end of the book I wasn’t even really rooting for them to be together which is a bummer in a romance book lol
But I love RS Grey and of course will continue to read her work 🥰 can’t all be winners and that’s okay!

Normally like this author but this fell flat
The narration was great but this book was so boring. The plot was based entirely around a flimsy miscommunication that resulted in anger that made no sense whatsoever. I struggled really hard finishing this book because I was so bored and sick of the really bad excuses the heroine gave for her behavior. I normally really like this author and this book was very disappointing.
