Summary
In der Nacht vom 24. auf den 25. Dezember ermordet Konrad seine seit Jahren an den Rollstuhl gefesselte Frau. Zwei Tage später wird er von der Polizei gefunden: in einer ausgetrockneten Jauchegrube, halb erfroren. Über die Gründe für die Tat gibt es Mutmaßungen, verschiedene Zeugen berichten Widersprüchliches. Festzustehen scheint eines: Um eine Studie über das Gehör zu verfassen, das "philosophischste aller Sinnesorgane", zieht sich Konrad gemeinsam mit seiner Frau in das Kalkwerk zurück. Er übt an ihr die urbantschitsche Methode, verbringt Stunden damit, ihr Wörter mit immer der gleichen Buchstabenkombination zuerst in das eine, dann in das andere Ohr zu schreien. Als Konrad erkennt, dass ihm die Niederschrift der Studie unmöglich ist, bleibt nur der Tod...
