Summary

How far would you go to save your family?

Midsummer used to be a day of feasts and bonfires. A day when cares were set aside for the joy of grass between our toes, warm hands in our palms, laughter in our hearts. Our celebrations dimmed with the light. Something upset the balance of our woods. Something so deep that even our bonfires can't lure the sun back. And he has something to do with it. Of that we're sure, which is why I'm being given to him.

K. M. Rice is a national award-winning screenwriter and author who has worked for both Magic Leap and Weta Workshop. A Fabulous Work!!

K.M. Rice weaves a thrilling dark fantastical story, bringing to mind the gothic and mysterious folklore feel of 'Uprooted', alongside the creeping atmospheric chills of 'The Woman In Black', and the heart-rending anguish of 'Wintersong'. As thematically dense as its forest setting, this is a tale we step into and experience as the viewpoint character, a fascinating heroine; gifted, flawed, determined, vulnerable. I firmly connected with her, bearing the emotion of her struggle and its outcome. Love, passion, fear and suffering are fuels for the story, which is an immersive mystery of many layers, brought wonderfully to life through Gail Shalan's perfect voice. It's a must listen title. With great poetry and descriptive power, author and narrator take the familiar haunted house genre and accomplish with it something vividly unique which captivates.

Predictable not well structured

Oh boy this book started out so well. The Audiobook was amazing especially the song. But after a few chapters in the story took a big nosedive. Just with the answer to one question "Who is doing all this?" as soon as I found out I immediately became uninterested. I had 2 hours left and almost quit until I saw comments about the big twist. I never found the twist it was all pretty predictable and they mentioned one person near the end who was the cause and I was like.........who? So it was not set up very well for any kind of twist to occur. About the only thing I enjoyed about the book was the narrator and the spookiness of it all but overall a very predictable story and not well structured.

An enthralling tale, beautifully written

Gail Shalen's voice is a perfect match for Willow. The story is enchanting, heartbreakingly beautiful, both tragic and hopeful and wraps itself like a cashmere cloud around the listener. I Absolutely loved Willow and Tristan. I expect that I will be thinking of them for a long time to come.
