About this listen

In an explosive novel from number one New York Times best-selling author Christine Feehan, a human woman ignites the desire of her Carpathian lifemate - and of an ancient vampire with a score to settle.

After the devastating loss of her entire family, Lorraine Peters heads to the woods searching for peace of mind and anything to quell the anger in her soul. Instead, she stumbles upon a scene of horrific violence, as one man lies helpless in the face of three attackers.

Andor Katona's existence has been a harsh one, living for centuries as a monk in the Carpathian Mountains. Unable to find his lifemate, he almost welcomes his release from a colorless and unfeeling world at the hands of the vampire hunters who have mistaken him for their prey. That is, until a whirling ball of fury bursts onto the scene, determined to save him.

In one glimpse, in one breath, Andor recognizes Lorraine as his lifemate, but it will take more than their telepathic connection to convince her of their immortal bond. Lorraine is a lethal combination of cunning and courage. So much so that she captures the attention of a master vampire, one who has already lost what was once irreplaceable to him. One who will strike with deadly precision at Andor and his ancient Carpathian comrades in a war to end all wars.

Christine never fails to deliver a great story. I’ve read nearly all of her Dark series and have never been disappointed. I’m also a BDB fan and recommend these books to anyone who enjoys them.

I love this series
And I’ve loved getting to know the ancients.
The story is taking a few new twists and turns. And all the while the author keeps it fresh. Andor was just about to choose to go to the afterlife when his life mate marches in and saves him (literally) colour and feelings are returned full force.
Lorraine is seeking enlightenment, but what she finds is 3 guys about to kill another. And after fighting them off, she cares for the stranger, not knowing why, but feeling a pressing need to care for him.
The story progresses at a good rate, lots of action and battles.
A few twists and turns. All the things we come to love in these stories.

As someone who has read or listened to every Carpathian novel, this did not disappoint. I enjoyed it, as usual.

I felt the narrator could have been better picked for the role. Whilst the narrator did an excellent job - he read well, was eloquent and had varying tones in his voice, I just could not imagine him as a Carpathian. Carpathian’s are strong, alpha male type men and this narrators voice did not convey that.

Enjoyable story
