Summary

Alicia Deats is a new teacher chaperoning her very first high school trip to Washington, DC, and nothing could be more terrifying than a class full of horny, backstabbing, boundary-pushing teenagers under her watch. To make matters worse, she embarrassed herself with her cochaperone Bryan Kenner with one too many margaritas and an ill-placed vomiting incident at last year's teacher mixer and is hoping this trip can be a fresh start for them. Alicia believes in positive reinforcement and trust to keep her students out of trouble, but best friend high school sophomores Gertie, Sivan, and Rachel have a different idea: They plan to take full advantage of the unparented freedom that a trip to DC offers. DC Trip by novelist-comedian Sara Benincasa is an honest and irreverent journey of sexual confusion, bar shots, drag queens, and pot cookies in the Rose Garden.

A joyous evocation of youthful intensity

I listened to this book over a long journey and it was a perfect companion. The comic misadventures of Sara's three teen heroines and their two twenty-something teachers on a chaotic school trip made me laugh, sigh and hope. Fun, exciting and romantic in equal measure, DC Trip took me on a journey as engaging and memorable as that of the characters themselves. I mostly know Sara from her wonderful autobiographical essays and her memoirs of her early life, but I hope one day she will give us another novel. Strongly recommended for a good time!

Bad

Just so bad. Don’t waste your tome. And the reader pushes after every word like Capt. Kirk.

A good laugh

I miss you Sara Benincasa!!! The story was enjoyable. The characters were relatable. It was nice to hear a coming of age story with no cell phone usage. 😍

Hilarious and touching

I loved this story from start to finish. It treads a beautiful line between vulgar, sweet, and funny. I smiled the whole time I listened to it
